I understand that 89-90 s13's are sohc so therefore any engine swap (sr or rb) would require converting the a/c and p/s over to dohc specs and think some wiring is different. in my area i can get 89-90 s13's for 1500-2000 on average and 91-94's go for 2500+
so my question is do you think it is worth getting an 89-90 (which would require a conversion) or just hold out for a 91-94?:rawk:

Totally worth it. I did it and it wasn't really a hassle at all, people just say that to make you doubt yourself :)

IMO you're better off putting a CA18DET in there, because that's what it came with everywhere else, but the sr wouldn't be much harder.
the SOHC also has some really cool N/A parts available for it that the DOHC KA doesnt. worth thinking about, at least.

Older S-13's need to be preserved by those who care. They are dwindling away and one day they will become quite sought after. They are lighter than their S-14 counterparts and more aerodynamic.
Light=More potential. We are talking 300LB's lighter. Very significan IMHO.
Other things to consider is what can be done to the SOHC for practice purposes until you want to jump ship to a DOHC. The displacement is there. You make it breathe and with all that touque it can develop and with driving skills developing, it can embarass a lot of rides out there. I totally just chewed up a 350 short bed 1991 Chevy truck. That says something...really.
Got to have the skills and the rubber to back it up.

sorry bill, just some info to show actual curb weights. between MT the weight gain is a mere 96lbs. and even AT 120lbs. not close to 300lbs. and nothing to write home about.
i just had to, you hit close to home on the overweight s14 issue.
those weights, i believe, are for stock and no options. the s13s are rare but even more are the s14s, which i rarely see.
IMO, FDragger, just wait on the 91 thru 94 models, good things come to those who wait, right bill? :boink:
