Inner CV joint boot

Im repairing most of the small problems with my car since i got the car on stands and getting it ready for the built motor that is going in. i went ahead and cleaned out my diff completely and replaced both shaft seals.

i noticed that both of my inner cv joint boots on my axles were torn completely causing grease to shoot out everywhere on the bottom of the car. i got the driver side axle out and all, but i dont know how to get the cv joint disconnected from the yoke on the axle. it seems there are clips that are holding the bearings onto the yoke shafts causing the joint to not clear enough for disconnection. i want to replace both boots but i run into this problem. i did a search on google and also around the forum but didnt seem to find anyone who has done this.

is there a special way to disconnect the joint from the axle shaft?

The FSM has a clear view of the axle teardown, but in nearly 20yrs I've only seen one or two axle boots torn on an Schassis. It'd be way easier and faster to pick up a pair of reman axles or even a used pair. When I parted cars I'd throw away a few a month since no one really ever needed them, so plenty of yards/parts cars will have them.

are both side the same length? cause i check with the autopart store and they offer one for the left rear. im just curious as i never even thought about changing them out til now. thanks for the help projectRDM :)

Yeah, I bought a brand new CV joint boot with the intention of fixing it, but alas, it was easier for me to just pick up another axle, so I've had this brand new boot sitting here collecting dust.

If you have the means to open up the axle and stuff, then this is probably the best way to go, since you're going to have brand new rubber instead of another axle that still has older rubber on them.

Bump. I bought inner cv boots months ago and I'm finally getting around to replacing my old torn ones. How do I do this? I've already got both axles of off the car

The first thing you do is get the chassis specific fsm. read it over twice keep it next to you when you do the project. pictures are nice but learn to follow the words.

I think the procedures are different for 5 and 6 bolt just because of the design, but the boot part is the same. scale of 1-5 its a 1 g\l
