So i've been deciding on coilovers for my s14 for a while now. My three top choices for my price range is the Tien Flexes vs stance lx or the GR+pros Stance.

As far as the two choices of Tien flexes vs stance lx, i chose them because of there soft ride quality. As there specs i saw that they were quite comparable. After reading some reviews i would say i got some mixed responses. Some say there comfortable as hell for daily driving but others say there are too soft for anything other than that.

My most important requirement after going from megan tracks( harsh stiff as hell=never going back from that) is a set of coilovers that i would feel comfortable in for street use. But have beast track mode after changing the dampening.

When talking to the local distributor of stance, it was that for only 200 dollars more i can get the stance GR-Pros instead of the lx for maximum performance. My greatest worry for these are that they maybe too stiff as like my previously mentioned, megan tracks.

what are you guys opinions and experiences(detail if possible). Hopefully pulling the trigger by this weekend to buy one of these.

Thanks!,
huy

I just purchased a set of the Stance LX+ yesterday. I won't get them in for a week or so, but I chose them bc they are supposed to be for mostly street use. I do not drift or track my car in anyway. It's just a fun street car for me. I found many good reviews of the LX+ on subie and other car forums. I thought for the price (and bc I'm tired of the no suspension travel Eibach's and KYB's that came on the car) it was worth a shot. I think either would be a decent choice. I just found more user feedback on the LX+ and they are also $300-500 cheaper.

they are not as stiff as megan tracks that's for sure (ridden on mr tracks). I had megan street and stance gr+ pros for s14. the 9/7kg gr+ pros were more comfortable than the 8/6 megans (megans have horrible dampers). Also, if you can find the shock dyno for the stance, they are pretty good. Each click does make a difference and you can feel the difference. The 8/6 sprigns on stance is pretty comfortable, noticeably more comfortable than the 9/7s. I have two sets of gr +pros on 14s and had one set of megan street on 14s. I've ridden in tein basics before and they were really stiff....

Tein is mediocre but brand name. Stance isn't as brand name and i would say better quality than tein.

yahs if i were getting grpros. i was thinking of the 8/6k combo. As far as daily driving, how long of a drive do you start to feel irritated at the stiffness?

Read my review on Stance LX+
I bought them last summer, best mod I bought for my car, worth every penny.
They were more comfortable than in another S14 with Tein Flex (but I didn't know what he set his dampening at)

I have no experience with either the Teins or the Stance LX.

I daily my GR+ Pros and have enjoyed them greatly. Haven't been able to hit the track yet, but I've autocrossed quite a bit and they went above and beyond of what I expected.

They're great for just daily status as well. I have some shitty roads and massive dips around my area and these coils take them pretty well. If I had to do it all over again and was still faced with the same budget I would definitely pick these up again.

ok sorry for that post

ok Tien's are over priced for what you get. Not going to knock them they are one hell of a coil but you can get just as good or better coils for the price you would spend on a name. i dont have ither i run PBM's on my car but i have friend's with both tien's and stance. With stance you can drop your car really low and you dont have a issue with them hitting your rucas. Allot of rucas wont work with Tien's LIKE PBM rucas i know they rub. If you have the option to ride or drive in a car with ither set of coils do it. I for one LOVE PBM's ..

what settings did you have them on at while daily driving? i heard that when set at soft settings 0's all around or under 5's they are quite bouncy.

this really depends on the other mods you have on your car... my gold s14, i'm pretty tired about an hour into the drive....

my black s14, i drove from arizona to los angeles and I wasn't as physically tired as I am in my gold car.

my gold car virtually has no rubber bushings on any of the arms... its mostly solid bushings.

Black car is mostly bushings and it's 8/6. So basically stock car with 8/6 coilovers are real comfortable. More comfortable than KYB AGX Shocks with Tein S Tech springs too. (agx shocks dampen like shit)

i have stance lx+ and whooever said this is lexus ride quality... i don't agree with that.... it is more comfy but when you hit a dip it pretty much bounces up and down.... but they're a lot more comfy than my old bc racing inverted coils... i'm wondering if getting 5kg front and leaving the 5kg rear springs will give an even better ride.... can anyone chime in? i have my dampers all the way on 0 too, it's not so bad when u hit a dip the car bounces up and down but you don't really feel it to much but u can definitely see it if that makes sense to you. lots of body roll too if you turn hard.... i would recommend these definetly, but i wouldn't go that far and say it's lexus ride quality... not to me at least... comfortable to me is like honda accord where u dont feel shit.... but, these are a good compromise imo...

the car still makes my back kinda ache every now and then... i dont know if its the car or the hard seats... somedays it's cool and all. but, befor when i had my bc racing coils my back would always hurt, now it;s only some days with the stance lx+... \

plus i never slam my car so i cant say if it rides good if it's low low low... but, i didnt get these to go low low anyway just for comfort, plus it's to much hassle if the car is wayy to low to do daily stuff like oil changes or even jack up the car.

hoepfully this'll help guide your decision.

I had flexs for my s13 and hated them... WAY TOO SOFT, They felt like springs. Luckily I got them used... I have godspeed now and i like the godspeed better. The godspeed are actually pretty good

i just installed some stance Gr+ pros, the only other coils i've had were megan. What i can say is that they do bounce, but they take dips and road bumps really well. I haven't tried them on full stiff yet, but i will soon.

i've had my lx+ on full stiff, it just bounces up and down faster and u feel it more aburptly haha. or u see it go up and down slower on 0 but u dont feel it as much.

monotube is more geared towards performance side from what i know of suspension...

twintube is more comfy it can absorb things better from what i know hehe.

Having gone through several different types of coilovers, I have to say JIC FLT-A2's and Stance GR+ Pro's are my favorites by far.

I've driven cars with Megan(Streets and Tracks), D2, Stance(GR+ and GR+ Pro), JIC(FLTA1's and FLTA2's), Tein(Basics, Flex, and Super Drifts), K-sport, and a few others I can't recall at the moment.

If you're on a budget, I would definitely recommend Stance GR+ Pro's.

Just a few hundred more than shitty Megans, but SO much better.

Ride on stock suspension for two months more and get Stance's instead of settling for Megans.

x2, except I haven't got to attend any events yet. As far as using them on the daily, they do very well. Every now and then my back will start hurting a little if I've been driving down rough roads for awhile but it's probably partly the way I sit in my seat (I usually lean forward alot). They're really not bad for dailying though, I'm very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend them.

yahs i had the megans on my s13 and it was killler on the freeway drives.

I have the budget for any of those 3 coilovers. As for right now im leaning towards the flex and grpros. It just i dont know if the flex can meet my performance needs, or the grpros good and not bouncy on low soft settings.

tein flex. but it also depends on tires and wheels. i was on yokohama ES100 215/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear. the ride was really comfy on my s14 SE model.

tires help a lot with the ride.

GR+'s or GR+ Pros. Both are very good IMO. I've tracked my S14 for past two years on my GR+'s and already hold a track record. Very good deal for the $

Good luck!

I've driven in cars with the Tein's and the GR+Pro's, I felt for ride the GR's are superior to the tein's, Tein's can be rather harsh. I'm building my 97' for track duty and I use the SS-D's from stance on that car and even they aren't terribly harsh unless at low speed or on uneven/bumpy roads. Handling with the GR+Pros is direct and crisp. As for the LX's I've heard good things about the street-ability and the ride height adjustability. I say base your decision off what you plan to do with this car.

My gf has stance gr+ and they're amazing.. nice and stiff.. yet dampen very well and are not overly harsh. I think i'll get the gr+ pro.. as my car could benefit from the helper springs.

i have tein flex on my s13 and think they are stiff enough for daily driving, and not to mention how important control arms are as well. I am def satisfied though, quality is good and the company has rebuilding centers in the US if anything happens.

tein flex pretty much feels like stock with the appropriate damper setting. this is on jersey roads, which are quite poor due to ice cracking open the road every winter. on higher clicks it can get quite stiff.

i actually went drifting for the first time (aka spinning out repeatedly for me) on them. a few of the people i went with mentioned they might be a bit hard to learn on as they are a touch on the soft side, so it makes the car kind of sticky when you are trying to break traction.

my more experienced friend was sliding my car around just fine though, so i can't blame my own suckiness on the coilovers. on that note, b.s. on anyone who says "they are too soft for anything other than that."

as for the actual shocks in the flexes, search google. fwiw, there have been alot dynos and subsequent positive comments on flexes from people more knowledgeable than myself.

I've put like 300 miles on my GR+ Pro's in like 3 months.. I love them. I'm 17 but I have back problems due to soccer and I really don't get any back pains with these. I used to with my D2's on my last s14 though.... I have my dampening on 10 up front and around 8 in the rear. I had the fronts on full soft ever since I bought them until a week ago. When on full soft they ride super smooth compared to those shitty D2's. I don't "daily" this car though... I drive an 05 lincoln towncar almost everyday so imo my car is super stiff just becasue what i'm used to.. I say gr+ pros because they ride super good for the streets and when you bump the dampening up the car feels a little more "stout".

I've rode on megans, godspeed, tein basics, d2's, and ebay coils.. None of those are remotely close to the gr+ pros and some are close to what I payed for my coils brand new..

hey I have a few of your answers here. I've have Stance GR+ Pro for well over 2 years and I bought them used from someone here that had them on the track that I don't remember for how long.
The first 3 months I played with coilover learning pre-load, damping setting and ride height. My car is a DD and weekend track car. I go out once a month for a auto-x event or a drift event. My commute to work passes through some of the oldest roads that I know of Carmel by the beach.
I'm running my damping at 4 in the front and 3 in the rear. But if I run them at 0 it'd be better but more bouncy. Running at 5 would be good but not for my area but great for freeway driving. I love how they feel on the track and the freeway. Anywhere from 0-6 feels nice. I liked them at 4 and 3.
Add sway bars just made city driving feel sniffer so I remember if it was better or not without them. I also just add SPC arms to my car and that also helped out the ride.

On the track they've do a great job. I can add more stiffness to add or take away traction where I need it. But then again I have everything done to my suspension other then bushing. So they maybe different for u.

But for the price I got them at and how long I've used them and put them through they've done me good.

Sorry for any of my english I just typed this all up and didn't reread.

I bought my Tein Flex with 3k miles for $900. They are great for daily driving, but I think they are almost too soft for anything else. I would be fine with going on long road trips on the Teins with them set at the hardest setting (I've actually never driven on them on any of the other settings). I just checked on prices, and the Teins do seem a bit overpriced.

Go with Stance.

Sorry I took so long to respond. I ordered mine from 240sxmotoring late that Friday, they processed the order on Monday, coils were at my house Thursday. Luckily my wife had taken the day off, so she signed for them. I haven't installed them, and probably won't until it warms up a bit. It's either raining or too cold here lately. Hi, had anyone tried the Tanabe Sustec Pro S-0C Coilovers, Ksport Kontrol Pro Damper Coilover Kit or BC Racing Coilovers or Tein SS Coilover Damper. My car is just gonna be a daily driver, with no strip or track use. Ive read where some coilovers can be bouncy, has anyone experienced this with any of the above mentioned setups ??

I really think it comes down to what you like, how you use the car, and how well the rest of the suspension system is set up. I've had flexes for 3 1/2 years now and love them. I've gone to a lot of events and had my fair share of late night industrial park runs. I guess you could say they are a bit soft but my car is extremely controllable in a slide and I feel as though I can manage my speed very well. Someone said earlier that the added grip may make it more difficult to break loose but I've never had that issue. I've only had a few opportunities to slide other cars but there suspension isn't nearly as modified as mine is, so its not a very reputable experience, plus I'm used to this. I have no plans to change mine. I might however change the front coils. I called Tein and they offer a stiffer set for the flexes, although I can't recall the rates. This is my car with the flexes at their lowest height.
