Shifter assembly?

Might be a dumb question, but I can't seem to put my new shifter boot on. My old one was ripped like most 240s, and so I got a new one but I'm missing something because it's not flexible enough to slide over the top, and the ball on the bottom doesn't come off either. Can someone help me with yet another noobie issue I'm having?

It can stretch over the top, believe it or not....(kind of like "you want to put WHAT WHERE?!?!?").

Put a little oil or grease or vaseline or something on the inner lip of the rubber and just pull it over.
