I'm having some trouble installing my j30 VLSD onto my S14, mainly problems with the drive shaft. If I bolt the 4 bolts that connect the LSD to the car, I cannot slide the drive shaft into place. If I connect the 2 bolts at the back of the LSD(on the cover) and connect the drive shaft, then the holes for the other 2 bolts do not line up with the holes on the car.
In this video:
240sx S14 J30 VLSD Swap KA24DET SR20DET Turbo Install Build Drift S13 S15 Differential Pumpkin.m2t - AOL Video (http://video.aol.co.uk/video-detail/240sx-s14-j30-vlsd-swap-ka24det-sr20det-turbo-install-build-drift-s13-s15-differential-pumpkinm2t/2408050890)
He seems to be able to move the drive shaft towards the front of the car in order to get the drive shaft in place. I cannot move my drive shaft that way, it cannot move forward or back, only around like it's pivoted.
Any advice?

Something's off,
you should have ~1/2" on forward play that allows you to slip the driveshaft onto the J30 pumpkin
Did you have any issues with the stock diff?
You may have to trim the dirt cover a tad on the back of the tranny to gain some room.

I was worried about something like this, which is why I chose to buy a Z32 diff and now I'm just waiting for some J30 halfshafts :coold:
What model year J30 did you get your diff from? I had a similar problem with driveshaft fitment when replacing my original tranny with an S13 one, took some "persuasion" to get it to fit by means of bending the metal dust cover thing on the back of the tranny which is what ManoNegra is talking about. If anything you could also get an auto 240 driveshaft for cheap and just swap it out.

You may need to swap out the rear section of your drive shaft. I remember when we did a SR20DET swap with my friends NA 15, he used a s14 trans with a S15 SR20DET. IIRC he used his stock drive shaft and it was to long. The drive shaft was rubbing on the trans at the input shaft. Since he used the 14 trans he had to use the 14 rear drive shaft section.
Well with that said you may have to swap out the rear section of the drive shaft. With which form what s-chassis I wouldn't be able to tell you... Im guessing whatever the shorter one is.

The car has ABS since i see a wire under the car that seems like it's supposed to connect to an ABS sensor and there's also a light in the dash for the ABS.
The diff that I took off did not have a wire for the ABS (so I know why the ABS light was on. +1 for me I guess..) so the previous owner swapped this open diff in at some point.
This weekend I'm going to try and clean what I can by the trans. If that doesn't work I guess my only option is to find another drive shaft?

I have a J30 VLSD in my S14.
ABS Driveshaft + J30 VLSD = Perfect fit?
What I did to fit mine was I mounted the two rear bolts first, pushed it up level with a jack, and then slid the driveshaft on. You might have to force the driveshaft on if it's a standard driveshaft. (Which I think it is, since you had an open diff.)

yea it has to do with ABS cause the driveshaft length differs on abs and non abs s14 and s13's.
