View Full Version : Reverse Pin...install orientation?

Last night I got to changing my transmission fluid when I went in search for the fill hole. Out of the 100 times I've changed transmission fluid, it has always coincided with an engine removal/install or been filled through the shifter hole; 2.5quarts. After laying under a slammed car on jack stands, I mistakenly turned my attention to the reverse check sleeve, and removed it (held in with a single M6 bolt on s13 SR20DET) . After sliding it almost completely out of the transmission, I noted the machined features on the end and reinstalled it in, what I hope, was the right orientation.

The Question: Does anyone know if the installation procedure for this part? I browsed through the FSM but it didn't seem to be covered in the "manual transmission" section; mainly addresses gear removal/servicing. What does that part literately do? Maybe if I could understand its reason for existence I could determine its position.

This doesn't seem to have been covered on here. I didn't have time to drive the car last night but I will tonight (hopefully its fine), but I thought it would makes sense to investigate this a little more before I decide to spin anything.

Thanks for the help.

Has anyone removed that before?

So it turns out that the reverse idler shaft does not engage the reverse check sleeve until the reverse position is physically selected. So, if you ever remove this part and are concerned about its orientation, much as I was, don't be. Just make sure the transmission is not in reverse and slide it in; Giggity:yum:.
