Hey everybody I'm changing my oil tomorrow and I'm planning on taking off the pan so I could clean it out and smooth out a tiny little dent but I was wondering...

When I re-gasket the oil pan I heard to just use RTV but I've never known what kind does it really matter which of these I use?

Also today I seafoamed my car today and after reving up and down to 3-4 a few times, I let it idle for about 5 minutes. A little white smoke was still coming out while idleing and I just shut it off.

Do/should I run it more before I change my oil or will it not matter since the contaminated oil will be gone?

And lastly, I just took apart my shifter today to prep for tranny fluid tomorrow, and like I've read in my search on these forums, the small boot inside was ripped, but only a little. The boot is totally separated from the shifter, but the boot looks to be in good condition.

Do I need to replace the boot entirely with a new one from the dealer or can I just put it back together with the ripped boot? What will happen if I don't replace it?

I appreciate any input, I'm still a semi-noobie and doing this all for the first time :hs:

get a new boot from the dealer, otherwise you will have burnt tranny oil all over your exhaust like this.

That gasket maker you have there should be just fine, that's the brand most manufacturers sell as "OEM". My dumb ass paid like $20 from the dealership when I could've gotten it for 1/4 that at Pep Boys when I had to re-seal the oil pan on my mom's Saab.

How did you SeaFoam your car exactly? In the crank case, vac line? You didn't specify. There's a nice and detailed write-up on how to SeaFoam your car on NicoClub somewhere, just Google it.

By the boot I'm guessing you're talking about the rubber inner shift boot, in which case you don't really need to replace it if it's only ripped a little. If it's loose like you said, you might want to take the screws and screw them in obviously so it doesn't wiggle around.

I saw a few write ups and I decided to go with half in the vac line from the brake booster and half in the gas tank. I've heard too many bad things about putting it in the crank case. I'm just a little worried about not getting it all out before I change the oil although a part of me thinks it won't really matter.

And Om1kron, WOW that sucks lol I'm probably going to go buy a new rubber boot. Btw do you remember what they cost from the dealer?

For RTV, I use the one on the right (red) with good luck.

and referring to the rubber boot:

I'm actually about to order one from them. lol
