V8 240sx

I am new to the forum and just purchased a 89 240SX and wish to do a Chevrolet Small Block install. I would like to talk to someone who has already done a V8 of some sort, i heard someone on here has one, please chime in and help me out.

P.S. i have always been a chevrolet guy but i really like the look of the 240 and the weight benefit.

A Ford V8 would have better luck in the 240SX, based on the 240SX front crossmember location and the engine's native use of a front-sump oil pan.

wouldn't dropping in a v8 engien totally kill the weight benefits and ruined the near 50/50 wieght balance? :bash:

Wouldn't a Ford V8 be more practical? Being that the oil pan location would meet up better in relation to the lower cross member/steering rack. The website WeST posted didn't have any pictures of the oil pan clearance with the Chevy engine.. so I wonder how they did it.

There is more to a 50/50 front to rear weight split. 50/50 left to right, and cross weight are much more significant to how a car 'handles'.

Miata V8 conversions have had OK results, with adding the much heavier engine (compared to a 1.8/1.6 engine..)

...and those conversions were not done with balance and handling as the utmost criteria; I wouldn't doubt with more aggressive considerations to weight and balance, the numbers could further be improved.

thats why i came on here, for info. I really would much rather build a chevy buit if it is easier a ford is ok. I will really build this car and with the weight of a SBC it only comes out to gaining about 100 pounds, which is not that bad at all. I can remove enough out of the engine bay to make that difference. Does no one have anyother info about this swap. On freshalloy someone said someone on here had a V8, i think it was a ford though.

Theres a Nissan V8 in a 240sx being done.

It fits really well :)

Not sure if its done or closed to being done, I should look into that.

IMO using a 240Z would seem more practical, its been done plenty of times, and there are guides all over which can help you. JTR (jags that run) is a book/website that covers the process, to the datsun people its a bible.

240 is stull possible, I have seen maybe 2 or 3 swaps (only one working), the whole weight thing shouldnt be much of a problem, seeing as V8 swap are popular with FCs. But I am assuming your are doing it more to just stick with an engine you know but a new project.

Maybe go over and check out the JTR thing and see what it has to say, it has to have some decent tips that might work universally.

:rawk: Even tho I've never done a swap... I would think the hardest thing would be to mount the engine and tranny to the car. If you are a V8 guy after that makin the fuel system and electric work should be a sinch.. And just for tip.. I would not stick witht he 4.083 rear I would change that bad boy..

the gear is the last thing i am worried about, i am looking to install a SB making atleast 450hp, maybe as high as 600hp. I will use a ford if nesecary i am taking the car to a guy tomorow who is doing a small ford twin turbo instal in a lotus esprit, i think he might be able to help.;) :drool: none the less please keep your eyes and ears open for me and let me know if someone does have one.

Umm don't get your hopes up too high... iirc he only gave a single picture of his engine, after which he tried to start a groupbuy on the kits he would make... people asked for more pics, but he never gave any, but rather misteriously disappeared... even if he replies be careful or you might get ripped off.
