I've tried searching this a few times and found nothing really anwering my question. Engine light comes on and shows MAP/barometric pressure code. Now, I know the 96 model has a MAP sensor, and I know where it's located. And the parts store wants $100 for a new one. And also I believe it's used for emissions, but I'm not sure of it's exact purpose, and what affect a failing MAP sensor has on this car. Anyone care to help?

There's two of them. One on the shock tower, one under the car mounted to the EVAP canister. Both are used for OBD monitoring only, they do not affect engine operation or driveability.
