Hello everyone.
Currently I am shopping for the Type-X lip, and here is a list of places I found that still sell it, or at least have it listed on their website.

OEM

Bodykits.biz - 587.48$
- JDM Nissan Parts JDM S13 180sx Kouki Optional Front Lip :: JDM Nissan Parts :: JDM Parts :: Bodykits.biz - www.bodykits.biz (http://www.bodykits.biz/store/cdseo-prod/jdm-nissan-parts-jdm-s13-180sx-kouki-optional-front-lip.html)

The Dori Shop - 525$ (shipped)
The Dori Shop OnLine (http://thedorishop.com/store/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=54&products_id=1313&osCsid=e65064884f44705333f719f724c6a8bf)

Phase2 Motortrend - 399$
OEM Type-X Optional Front Bumper Spoiler (http://www.phase2motortrend.com/tyopfrbusp.html)

Replica

GT-1 - 195.48$
GT-1 Motorsports Kouki Style Front Lip Spoiler RPS13 (http://www.rhdjapan.com/gt-1-motorsports-kouki-style-front-lip-spoiler-rps13-61269)

Modiride - 175$
Modiride - AE86 S13 240sx Body Kits and Aero Parts (http://www.modiride.com/240sx.html)

If you know of any other places, please let me know.
I would prefer to buy the OEM lip, although the cost of the replicas is tempting. GT-1 makes quality products I would assume, does anyone on here have experience with the lip?
Any input is welcome.

Of course feel free to sidetrack this thread and start posting pictures of cool kouki 180SX cars.

I'm willing to bet that the shops that still have it listed just simply have not updated their records.

If a brand new OEM lip came up for sale before I'm ready to buy SexyStyle, best believe I will jump on it. But in the meantime, dare to dream:

its really just the paint that stand a car out.

you can have a primmed up type x
there is no shape to the car everything looks flat.cant see curves nothing.
or even with cheap paint wit not much gloss.

and have a nice painted type x next to it and you can really see the difference

rims size and ofset too

I'll make it, I'll even do a GB on it so you guys can save some coin. All I need is for someone to find/ get me the lip perhaps and I'll make it. If someone has it, and can provide me with it, I'll give you a carbon one at cost.

Email me directly with your Full name, Address, phone, and zilvia.net user name and I'll compile a list. If it looks like its something that'll take off, I'll start the GB thread on it. I'd say PM me, but my PM box fills so fast, email is easier.

...and just a best guess...$149 for FRP, $299 for carbon would be approx. retail.

No drilling required. Take the plastic brackets off the usdm license plate holder (the brackets with the threaded nut inside) and snap them into the holes on the kouki bumper. Slide them inward a bit (toward the center of the car) and align the holes. Tighten up the screws and you are set!

That sounds great. I like a method where I don't have to cut or drill anything. :)

It looks like it should work with the kouki clips too. Are the USDM clips longer/different? I didn't even know USDM S13's came with front plate brackets.

I got shiny brand new style plates and I would rather not mutilate them yet, plus the extra holes left in the middle would be kind of goofy.

Sarcastic answer:
That would require me using power tools/doing car work.

Brian
01-08-2010, 05:00 PM
ah yes, good point.
You have to treat those new plates real nice. I'm so careful with mine.

I have an idear.
Seems simple.

The US holes are not as far apart, yes?
ok good.

next step.

perhaps what you would want is a simple piece of metal. a rectangle.
From the looks of it, maybe an inch and a half long each. ... or hell, maybe a long piece that you bolt to the factory holes, then you drill 2 holes in that little metal bar for the US plate holes.

Does that make sense?

Boom. Superglue or Epoxy nuts behind the holes and then you got a cool guy bracket to bolt the US plate to.

It's real simple in my head, but I didn't even rear what I wrote, so I hope it makes sense

Touge_Monster

I met with Chris from modiride when I purchased my type x lip from them. I remember him mentioning that the first lips they produced had fitment issues due to being too short from the ends (where it bolts to the wheel wells). The lips he sells now have extended ends and they fit great.

This makes sense knowing that the OEM plastic lips exhibit much better ductility than fiberglass or FRP. So keep that in mind when making your lips Chaser.

But the thing is, bromosexual, that Chaser needs the original to make the mold. If somebody could so happen to cut up the bottom of a GT-1 bumper (like the lip in question) and send it to Chaser, they can make it. Otherwise that picture isn't enough to suffice in making the lip.

That sounds great. I like a method where I don't have to cut or drill anything. :)

It looks like it should work with the kouki clips too. Are the USDM clips longer/different? I didn't even know USDM S13's came with front plate brackets.

Perfect. After the license plate is aligned the clips clamp down when the screws are tightened so it ain't going nowhere.

Hey,
Let's stop calling each other names and make this thread go bad. Let's treat each other with respect like we're supposed to. My friend has a complete GT1 kit, and I know that they need a copy of the lip to make one. GT 1 has a 180sx replica lip and a complete bumper that's connected to the lip like the one I've posted. All you need is the 180sx amber and clear turn signal with wires. Extend the wires to connect the side clear wires to the top square 180sx bumper lights and the amber wires to the bottom round amber lights on the bumper on your picture. It's just plug and play. Although now I will have to buy those turn signals just for the harness, gosh darn kouki 180SX haha.

Unfortunately I'm not sure if my turn signals came with any wires or sockets. Although since they look orange, there might be sockets with amber bulbs in them after all? I'll have to check. If not, hopefully the sockets from the USDM or the half-clear chuki lights will work.

By the way, are the kouki turn signals dual-function by any chance, where they stay lit like the USDM turn signals, and flash brighter? Or are they single-function like the rear turn signals, where they're only on when flashing?

wh0aitznic0
01-10-2010, 08:38 PM
From what I understand, they're only single function (only come on when you turn on hazards/turn signals). Position lights are always on, though.

you can modify your usdm oem bulbs to work in 180sx position lights. i just cut the hole in my dmax lights to fit the stock bulbs and sealed them with electrical tape.

thats another option.

Matej

The bulb is clear the light itself is amber

From what I know the turn signal only blinks and the parking lights ( the clear ones) are on all of the time

Mine did not come with wires but did come with sockets. I just wired it directly to the socked using a sodering gun (I dont know how to spell that). To figure out what does what cut one wire on the US socket (that is not the ground) then turn on your hazards or headlights to see what function that wire controlled. Atleast thats what I did.

I'm still waiting on my Kouki front end from Japan, but I have the pics they sent me before it shipped. Do you guys think this crack can be repaired by a body shop?

I am guessing that it can be, but I would like some other opinions. If it can't be, I can always buy a new oem front bumper- but I'd love to save this one. Obviously I would want to do it right (i.e. no zip ties). It's funny, it looks like the turn signals were cleared out as well... I ordered new oem turn signals and position lamps, since one of the lamps was cracked and the signals are cleared out.

It was pricey, but I really wanted that OEM front lip.

To me, it's not a matter of if it's "played out", it's how clean you can pull it off.

There's hundreds(if not thousands) of people rocking Kouki aero.

Some with rattle can paint jobs, others with Maaco paint jobs, and lastly, those with professional paint jobs.

They might have the same exterior parts, but the "finish" makes all the difference in the world.

Same goes for buying real and knock off parts.

Build two S13's. One out of nothing but real quality parts and another out of knock offs.

Sure, they might look the same(at a glance), but the S13 with real parts WILL outperform the car built with knock off parts.

And I agree about something like this being "played out." It's a stock bumper that came on the car... how can it become played out? I never knew such a thing even existed until I joined the Nissan/240 realm, lol.

Find me some Red Wings stuff please.

To me, it's not a matter of if it's "played out", it's how clean you can pull it off.

I was just joshin, type-X is timeless. Rauh Welt reinvents Porsche every year, As long as artistry and passion are involved some things will never die.

But I agree quality and finish is everything.

... I do hope we see another G-corporation 180sx aero kit somewhere here in the US. It would be a refreshing new trend.

okay, so the real lip is a billion dollars, but it's urethane. the knockoff ones are dirt cheap, but FRP. FRP fucking sucks because it collects rock chips like i collect pokemon cards. but then again most lips do anyway.

CrimsonRockett
01-14-2010, 02:41 PM
The problem with an FRP lip isn't rock chips(well, not the only problem), but the lip cracking/exploding on the first dip it takes.

I had Zenki lip on my Chuki for months and abused the fuck out of that thing until the edges were missing. It never actually cracked though.

The first time you scrape with fiberglass, it usually cracks around the mounting points from the stress and at the exact point of impact.

At least Urethane can tolerate quite a bit more before giving out (even longer if you actually take care of it).

Taniguchi_Is_#1
01-14-2010, 03:39 PM
i never had any issues with cracking fiberglass in any location when i had my old bings lip. it fit very good for FRP, and i pretty much scraped a hole in it with the ground. the thing about FRP lips is that you have to treat it as if it will explode at any minute. if not, then it will break. for guys that are low on coilovers, i don't see any reason for breaking a lip because if your streets suck as much as philly streets do, you shouldn't be driving around in a way that will break your crap anyways.

my old lip:

CrimsonRockett

From my point of view, most fiberglass copies I've seen are thin and extremely shitty.

Which is why I say, it'll explode on the first dip it takes.

Now, the fiberglass lips I've come across from Japan...THOSE I can see putting up with some abuse. Extremely well made.

Taniguchi_Is_#1
01-14-2010, 03:54 PM
i completely agree. it really does depend on quality.

Matej
01-14-2010, 04:03 PM
While I want the rest of my Type-X aero to be OEM urethane, I don't care if the lip will be a fiberglass replica anymore. I mainly only want it to protect the bumper. On top of looking cool of course.

Pretty sure fiberglass usually explodes when people mount it solidly with bolts like they would a stock bumper/lip. I had a cheap fiberglass bumper until now which I have scraped countless times and plowed roadkill with, and when I sold it, it did not have a single crack or chip. I mounted it with zipties, which gave it slack if I scraped or hit anything. And no, it was not saggy or ill-fitting. If you get smart with zipties, you can make things fit properly.
By the way, I'm not saying everyone should prefer zipties or fiberglass replicas to OEM, I am only sharing what works for me.

My lip takes a lot of abuse, you can get tricky the way you mount it.

There are 2 " [ " shaped supports on each side, when I took these off I gained around 25mm of movement just infront of the tyres... (the place where you usually go over speedbumps etc.. ) It's not secured in the wheel well either..

I'll try to take some pics / video.

Just got my new project today. My last car (AE86 with a levin front) required removal of the bumper support to fit the front/rear bumpers. For installing the Kouki Aero on my 240 does it require anything gay like that? I'm ordering the front bumper/brackets/extensions/lights next week, and want to make sure it's just putting the aero on, and nothing that requires custom brackets/bolts/etc like putting a Levin front end on an AE86.

Does the existing lighting harness just wire up with the lights in the front bumper?
