So i live in miami where the average temperature is like 90 degrees. When i finished my widebody it was in the summer in like 95 degree weather, i fitted the overs to the wheel and tire combo i wanted with the alignment already done and made it flush.

So today it was like 60, i took the car out and out of nowhere the drivers rear was slighlty rubbing, so i think hmm easy the eccentric bolt slipped, put the car up check everything and it was good and tight, well i figured something must has shifted so i dial in some negative camber problem solved.

Fast foward a few hours later i take the car out now the temperature is about 38 degrees, i drive an hour park the car, and hour later i leave and i get down the street and the rear is lightly rubbing again, so i think damn something must be coming loose, luckily i had marked it all with the last time i did it with a sharpie, so anyway i get home jack this bitch up and nothing has moved.

The only conclusion i can come up with is the fiberglass or sheet metal is some how contracting and lessening the little clearance there was to begin with. The fenders are riveted and panel bonded (chassis glue) to the car. This sounds out there but its the only thing i can imagine.

What do you guys think does this sound crazy or what??

:dead:

wow. i suppose its not to far fetched, but ive never heard of it before. couldnt be any issues with the tires being extra stiff and fridged from the cold maybe?

well it is confirmed..

i got home two and a half hours ago with zero tire clearance to the 1/4 panel, my garage is 80 degrees and i just wemt out an mesaured with my micrometer 3mm of clearance. HMMMMMM

Wow.

What widebody kit did you get? What's the material?

did you say sheetmetal? then yeah metal contracts when it's cold and expands in the heat.

well i know metal does but i didnt think the fiberglass would be affected, i think the sheet metal below is whats doing it being that when i installed the widebody i bowed it out alot so its mounted in tension.

The overs are from origin.

38 degrees in Miami is now the 2nd most damndest hing I've heard all today ;)

Just teasin! Wacky weather of late huh?!?!

I've never taken notice of anything like this, but it's certainly plausible!

All those temps are hot try Chicago! With 12 inch of snow expected tonight-tomorrow night. That is weird I've never heard of overs shifting

but yeah fiberglass shouldnt flex like that iirc

yea fiberglass doesnt contract or expan, like i said im pretty sure since its bowed out and mounted in tension any contraction of the surface metal is pulling it back in.

72 day and 50 night around my area :D

Put me down as another one who's never heard of this happening. Though your last post makes sense to me if the overs were indeed mounted in tension.

You know you put two materials layered together. One expands more than the other, so that's what's happening I guess. I can't think of the name right now, but you know the thing that's used for switch and stuff. It contacts and close the circuit and heats up, releases it to break the circuit.

Wow, I've never heard of this happening before. Does your paint look (I would guess) wavy anywhere around your QP's to show shrinkage?

Maybe tire pressure is going up and down due to the drastic temp changes just a thought.

I would check it when its not rubbing then check again when it is.
