Do S14 SR's get better gas mileage than S13 SR's because they have variable valve timing?

Variable Timing Control. You should get better gas mileage at lower rpm's. It's a thing much like honda's vtec, only w/o the longer duration cams, instead I think the pulse width gets longer, or something to that effect. The spec V's have that, or vvtc or whatever, but you can really hear it kick in past 5K.

well since it doesn't kick in until high rpm's, the lower rpm range will not change in gas milage. But at high rpm's when it is kicked in, it will improve gas milage. Since it is letting more air in and out. So if they do get better gas milage it is only in higher rpm range when it is kicked in all the way.

Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression that they had variable valve timing similar to VTEC but apparently I was wrong. The more you know. Bling.

ok, nissan's VTC (watever you wanna call it) in the S14 SRs only works at lower RPMs to help torque. It starts working at very low rpm (forgot) to around 5300rpm? only.

OPPS:bash: Thats right! It's because the red tops had a short runner intake, and the blacktops all had long runner intakes. Short runner intakes get better low down torque. So sorry
