I had the same problem when I used wireless on my PS3. I don't think it's the PS3, but rather the high bandwidth the game demands.

I can stream videos and play other games online without any issues.

As far as I know, you can't make your laptop a hub.

Well i got my ps3 to work flawlessly off my wireless, game is so bad ass!!!
