What I did for the neutral switch was splice into the wire near the ECU to a switch on the driver's side and then run from the switch to ground. All you gotta do to avoid a CEL is flip the switch back and forth once whenever you start the engine.

ya i got that already, i got that, project car mag, nightkid86, and the tech dvd, maybe i missed it but all have been vague about this step, lol. im just gonna cut it n forget it,(one way,, not three way) i think thats how most of them go anyway cuz its an auto platform. just my guess. ill let you all know if im mistaken. lol.

on the lower harness that goes to the fuse block on the passenger side you will find a two pin grey oval plug with a thick black/yellow striped wire and a thick black/white striped wire. jump the two wires together, and that should do it

I have never had a CEL from disconnecting the neutral position switch.

I always remove the neutral switch wiring from the car with no problems whatsoever.

I have. The wire was pulled out. I put it back in, reset my ECU, haven't had a CEL since. BTW, my car is OBDII (1996)

What ECU are you using? What was the code?

P0705 IIRC. Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)

My car is a 5 speed, and always has been to my knowledge.

My ECU is stock with the GReddy Emanage piggyback.

PRNDL is an Automatic ecu code

P0705 IIRC. Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)

From the FSM EC section:

Engine related

P0705, MIL 1003 Park/Neutral position switch circuit (PARK/NEUT POSI SW) The signal of the park/neutral position switch is not changed in the process of engine starting and driving.

A/T related

P0705, MIL 1101 Inhibitor switch circuit (INHIBITOR SWITCH) A/T control unit does not receive the correct voltage signal from the switch based on the gear position.

To test the P/N POS SW, you turn on the ignition switch and shift the lever to P or N. The CONSULT should show the value for this parameter as ON. When you shift away from these gears, the value changes to OFF.

My car is a 5 speed, and always has been to my knowledge.

My ECU is stock with the GReddy Emanage piggyback.

This is strange. You may want to check your ECU.

PRNDL is an Automatic ecu code

I know. I was confused when this code was thrown. Luckily Nissan covered it, since they recently worked on my transmission. The guy that worked on my car pulled the wire out when he was putting the trans back in. He soldered the wire, and it's been fine since.

I just googled the code, and apparently other 1996+ with manuals have thrown this same code. Strange.

Now I want to leave the gearshift in 2nd and drive around several drive cycles and see if it throws this code.

so i was right you dont need to make "Y" connections in these cases(5th pos., and neutral switch...)
stay in school kids!, u too can drive MT.

it was a long, educational and fun/terrible experience doing the swap.

So what exactly fixed this issue? As I have the exact same problem with my 98 with a 5 speed ECU (J6)

when it comes to cel im not sure, i just wanted my car to start and run with all functions present. reason im not concerned with cel, is my car had them before the swap, and im using a 96 ecu so im already guaranteed some codes.

P0705 is for neutral switch for M/T S14s or Park/Neutral for A/T.

Generic OBD2 scanners will always identify P0705 as PRNDL switch.

so i scanned my car and i have the following two codes: p0335(crank position sensor) and p0100(MAFSensor) im gonna guess the crank position sensor i got with the swap was bad. and mafs i dunno dont care just wanna get them fixed i also got some emssions codes crap and blahblah anyways,,,, any one know how to fix these codes? is it just a matter of replacement parts? or other ways? the car drives fine, but bogs every now and then, kinda just at random times but rarely..
