This is a 2 part question. Really more of a 1st question and a rev question.
I have 89 s13 coupe, and was looking to get a s14. What are the pro's and con's, if you will. I have heard of people going from and s14 to a s13, and trying to fig out why. I know it is just the preference of the person. but what else could it be? Can you feel the differnce in body, car control? pretty much all around feel of the car.
The rev of the question is this if you have had a s14 and gone into a s13 what have you noticed good or bad? (only talking about feel of driven of the car). I love my s13 but was looking to get a s14 and of course keep the sr. any insight would help. Thank you

Well I've went S13 coupe, to S14, S14, and now S13 hatch. The biggest difference was the S14 has a lot more solid chassis. Maybe because it's a little newer, but the chassis just feels stiffer. I went to a S13 hatch because I've never had one. I figure buying a cheaper car would allow me to spend more money on it. I don't regret it at all and still don't prefer one over the other.

after owning 4 s13's and 3 s14's i have to say the s14 "cockpit" wise was bit more pleasing to drive. always felt like my seats sat at an akward rake in my s13's compared to my s14's also seem as if the seat posotion is better centered to the steering wheel (i/e i always felt as if i was right up against my door panels in my s13's).
if anything i miss the room in the hatch my s13's had, hell even the coupe IMO had better trunk space.

I have owned and driven S13 coupe, S13 hatch and S14. The S14 definately feels a lot stiffer just better overall when driving street wise. You should try to test drive an S14 before you buy one just to get a feel for it.
I dont think I would want to go back to an S13 but if I do I would rather go back to the coupe. Overall I think the S14 just feels more pleasant to drive.

i had 2 s13 hatches before my s14
s13 pros:
More parts on ziliva for them
Cheaper to get ahold of
See more at junk yards(spare parts, what not)
s14 pros:
I like the looks more
Newer
Stiffer Chassis(IMO)
More comfortable to drive on the streets(more room)
Im sure i missed some things, but overall i like my s14 alot more, i do miss my s13(89 hatch welded and pbm coils, sohc) it was a fun car to play around in, at the end of the day just pick one and go with it... they both are proven cars and you cant go wrong with either one...

i got sick of rusted out s13's (new england winters), and beat up cars, so i moved to the other end of the spectrum and got a kouki.
first impressions were the chassis felt a lot tighter and stiffer and more well-built, but i'm confident this has nothing to do with construction,
just age of all the previous cars. i'm sure a brand new S13 would feel even better.
i dislike the dash design in s14 because it was when they were just starting to integrate airbags, and designs were limited.
handling, i gotta say i miss my s13's. on track days, i feel like my s14 is so much more unpredictable. i think it's the subframe design,
which has been a well-covered topic. there's a reason nissan reverted to s13-style 'toe-in under load' when they made the s15.
i don't really like the way it transverses, and it feels not trickier, or more difficult, but just unpredicable. like i can't connect with the car as easily.
i don't like that feeling. guesswork when i throw the wheel back.
my jdm-bumpered kouki turns a lot more heads than my aero'd s13, so i guess if you're into that, it's a pro for s14.
also the interior patterns, materials and such are a bit classier.
moral of the story, the s14's a more comforable daily, but i really miss my s13's. ho hum.

When I was starting looking for 240s s13 coupe was what i wanted, which is why my user name is still s13pignose, yet I ended up with a s14 zenki..with no regrets. Also I found the 14 to have more leg room. Still like 13's though

I've owned 5 s-chassis, currently have two s13 hatches and one s14
like it's been mentioned the s14 feels stiffer and more modern, great for a daily
s13 feel more nimble, have more room to carry crap and imo respond better to mods
so for me: s14 -> daily, s13 -> track
but I change my mind almost on a daily basis so take it with a grain of salt

Honestly the rear subframe would not make the difference between the s15 and s14 as they are the same short of one extra brace bar and a little more reinforcement. Geometry wise and link mount point wise they are the same.
Now the S13 subframe vs the s14/s15 there is a difference. Its a debated subject as well as to how much better the s14/s15 subframe is as well. Rod racing guys seem to like it s14/s15 subframe a lot. some drifters have run the s14/s15 subframe as well. Others have said it does not make a big enough difference.
As to it making the difference on the s14 vs the s13 it is a contributing factor but definitely not the complete story.
I would say that the best way in my opinion to describe the difference between the S13 and S14 is a direct correlation to driving.
A S14 feels like a larger car, regardless of if it really is. It also does not instill the same driving feeling in me. When I drive a setup s13 it says toss me, abuse me. It rides a little harsher, still smooth mind you. HAHAHA compared to a 240Z or 510.
Now the s14 on the other hand does not ask me to do things like that. I go around a corner and its controlled and tight and says ya I can do that. It does not ask me to though.
The s13 embodies more of the essence of a Sports car vs the S14 being more the sporty car. Yes there is a difference in the terminology.
That is my impression. I am sure I would like a s15 much more than a S14 as well.
Nothing wrong with the s14 just really not my cup of tea.

I say buy the S-14 and drive them both around for a while if it doesn't work out simply sell the S-14 or if you prefer it over the S-13 sell the S-13, Either way you can't go wrong with either of the two. hell keep them both make one your track car and the other your DD, Personally I feel the newer chassis' is alot better looking compared to the older chassis. Though thats more of my personal opinion... I say bite the bullet go for it if it doesn't work no sweat sell it, but I'd keep your original car.

Once you drive one it's hard to downgrade to 13's or 14's.

agreed
cant base it on how old the car is
i had a 93 coupe, now i have a 97 s14, my s13 was in better shape mechanically and suspension wise. My s14 has slightly better interior, but suspenion and motor is just focked. Live and learn

Once again you step out and make a stupid opinion statement like above. You really live up to your SN i.e. Bubble brain.
LOL ya drive a stock 510 vs a stock s13 and the S13 will rule. Stock 510's were little underpowered tin cans(seriously underpowered). Sure a set up 510 is great, It's what I started with but there is no comparison of it to a s13 or s14.

s14 feels better during a drift. More brainless than a s13.
Only thing about the s14 is that the foot area felt decreased.
Toss a s14 subframe in an s13 and you will get the same shit.

yea I felt much more comfortable drifting in my s14...seemed like it got alot more angle stock for stock too..I prefer the s14 over s13 hatch or coupe (ive owned 2 of all 3 different chassis), just because its newer looking, and more room inside as far as driver room. But as it was said before, s13's are alot cheaper and easier to come by parts wise so I made my choice and went from an s14 back to an s13 coupe.

Drove a hatch first, then a coupe, then the S14. Within the 2 to 3 years of driving the S14, there was a 2 month length where I drove a hatch again (SR wiring problems). I daily all my s-chassis and never track my car, only some sprint every once a while.
Exterior wise, I like pop ups, Silvia front, or whatever, any S-chassis face works for me.
Interior wise, I find the S14 a little plain. I like S13's better besides the buttons around the steering column.
Driving wise, S14 feels easier and more comfortable, where as the S13 feels sportier. My S14 seems slower, compare to a S13 with a SR and similar mods. Maybe it is the extra weight that makes me feel this way. The hatch is going to be louder if you go with N1 style exhaust, since there's less separate you from it (tested with a Blitz Nur Spec exhaust with a coupe and a hatch).
Storage, on the other hands, only hatch are any good. Both S13 and S14 in the coupe form just cannot fit much in the trunk. I fit a computer desk (built and not taken apart) into a hatch, where as I cannot even fit a full size luggage in the trunk in either coupe. I love how useless the fold down seat is in the S14.

Well, I have S13 coupe and S14 at the moment, and I really like both cars.
Drifting wise, S14 hands down easier and more smooth to drift.
Daily Driving wise, S14 hands down, looks better IMO.
But, my S13 is the track car, why? it's more challenging to drift then the S14, and that's where the fun is at IMO.
Would I buy another S13? of course, I've owned S13 HB last year as a daily driver, I didn't feel that it had more "cargo" space then the Coupe, it's just got bigger single open space rather then more space due to the rear hatch back slobe design. but aside from that, not much cargo difference from what I've had so far.
But next thing to do on my Car list is get another S14 as a drift car and have the other S14 as a daily driver. Seems like the right move to make IMO.
oh, and I love S14 interiors better then S13's. something about it. it just feels more proper. thicker door's maybe? haha.

im curious on what parts everyone keeps referring to that are soooo much harder to find on an s14 vs an s13 since 90% of the moving parts are exactly the same. other than the diff and driveshaft and of course exterior parts its practically the same car. atleast as far as parts that can keep you from driving.

fenders

lights
trim pieces
don't see many s14s at the junk yard but I sure do see a lot of S13s
driveshaft is the same for 5 speed
diff you can just swap covers
I have had two 13's and now dd a 14. The 14 is more comfortable as far as interior, and is a more composed car. The 13's feel more raw, like someone said before, they want to be thrown into corners and thrashed on. Some of my buddies have trouble fitting in a 14 for head room with stock seats compared to a 13.

s13's are rad, I love them and hope to someday build an awesome hatch as well. But just look at the aftermarket for s13's compared to s14's...
they're like honda's so available, cheap to mod, easy to work on.
S14's are more like honda accords, there are less nick knacks for them. And the reward is greater for the small modifications.

My brother has had over 19 S13's(not exagerating) and 3 S14's and after I drove them all, I decided to get a S14 because the S13 felt too old for me. It was fixable things that made me want a newer car. Because the way the S14 felt, it was as easy to drive and felt so nice when your cruising. It all depends all to you, if your into drifting or looks.

I totally agree with everyone talking about the Interior feeling and the handling of an S14
I have a Built S13
Stance GR+ Pro's
Battle Version Control Arm Kit
Nismo Power Brace
Subframe bushings
18x9.5 with 215/40
My S14 with ONLY
ISIS Control Arm kit and the same rim/tire combo
with an alignment
handling wise almost beats the crap out of my S13's,
S14 feels way more solid, way less body roll, very grippy yet still easy to kick out

What?
It's no harder to build an s14 than it is a s13.
I don't think you see where I'm going... S13s are old chassis, it's damn near essential to spot weld most of the chassis so they're good track vehicles.
It's not hard at all to spend money and throw parts on a car, but maintaining them on the other hand is a whole different story.
most people rip out their heater cores and their cooling (ac) systems, gut the cars, throw a body kit on it, an sr, some shitty suspension mods, z brakes and call it a build.
all in all I thought the s13 was going to be twice the headache the s14 was and that's why I got rid of my hatch.
This may not be the opinion of everyone else, it is just mine that I am sharing in this thread.
I still prefer the looks of BH's 240 to mine. But my car just feels newer, still even smells new on the inside.

i had an s14 with 80k miles, than went to you s13 two tone with around 140k miles. The s13 hadled a lot better, both cars had stance coilovers. S14 had a quiter interior, s13 is a better drift car IMO.
I think its based on the car you get, the s13 i have has a rock solid chassi.

I own both in stock trims.
You have to realize that the components on a s13 are nearing 20 years old so they will require replacement soon rather then later. Which might be a good reason to slap some coilovers, bushings, arms and all that JDM stuff. However S14 will also require replacements later rather then sooner. S14 has a better ride in stock form than an S13.
Interior wise I like them both; S13 is a bit more uncomfortable, I say due the seats.
Exterior is personal preference, I think there are more options overall for an S13, since it has a bigger market.
