Okay you sloppy *SNIP*,

This shit is getting ridiculous. Since there has been an amazing outburst of threads that contain small insignificant questions that don't need their own threads, here is a thread where they can all go.

RULES:

1) DO NOT SHIT UP THIS THREAD. Unnecessary, stupid replies will be reported. Mods- offenders SHOULD be temp banned.

2) DON'T POST UNLESS YOU ARE ASKING A QUESTION OR ANSWERING ONE!

3) DO NOT BE AN ASS OR SARCASTIC! This thread is for all those dumb little questions that don't need their own threads, so don't come in here if you don't want to read them!

4) This is for small/dumb/personal questions. IE: "What should I buy next? Why won't my car start? What is camber? How many quarts of oil should I fill up? Why doesn't my knockoff wheels impress zilvia? Where can I order this part?" et cetera

MOST IMPORTANTLY, use your fucking head before you post a question that easily could have been found using the search feature. If you think your question deserves its own thread, at least give this one a try first you might be surprised one answer will do the trick.

i agree that it is ridiculous. however a thread like this is similar to that of a 4 letter nissan website.

a thread like this will definitely unclutter the forum, however a thread like this will definitely be for the super lazy.

but anyway:

what's the proper way to install the s14 Euro Zenki headlights so that the high beams work? I've heard that they use the H3 bulb, should an H4 -> H3 converter harness do the trick, or where can i find a H3 plug to rewire my harness in order for the high beams to work correctly?

i've got a dumb one that i've seen conflicting and incomplete answers for.
what's the ID and max power levels of the common MAFS s13, s14, N60, N62, Q45 (P60?)? throw in more if you know them.

Car - MAF code - max pwr - diameter
s13 KA - G60 - 260whp - mm
s13 SR
s14 KA - G70 - 260whp - 62mm
s14 SR - - 270whp - mm
Q45 - P60 - 350whp - 90mm

What does the trim piece that is supposed to cover this sunroof bolt look like? I am going through boxes of parts trying to reassemble my interior, but not knowing what exactly I am searching for makes it that much harder to search for it. Thanks!

not sure about the other things, but i know for a fact you can go to advance auto parts and get harnesses (both male, and female) for just about any kind of light bulb. If they don't have it they can order it (if the guy behind the counter knows what he's doing)

bravo on this thread btdubs.

my question: are there any ways I can get rid of my leaking sunroof? It leaks air at speeds over 90mph and makes this terrible screeching sound. Something I can do about this short of getting rid of the sunroof.

Stock MAF for s13 and s14 reads out at 260 hp. Someone else can chime in on the others.

very common problem most people fix it with washers to increase tension

here's another solution

How good/quiet are the resonators they sell at the "mom & pop" muffler shops?? Anyone rockin one? i need to get one for my loud ass exhaust but cant decide whether to just cheap out & go with one of these & get it over with or go with aftermarket like vibrant performance or something..anyone??

all exhaust resonators are generally the same

usually it mellows the tone out to more a of a HUM rather that a loud raspy sound

they look like this on the inside

http://images.off-roadweb.com/tech/0705or_03_z+banks_power_jeep_exhaust+muffler_cutaw ay.jpg

no point in really SPLURGING for an exhaust unless you really love a certain tone a market exhaust has

if you want to quiet it down maybe you should get a muffler welded into your exhaust

they have some small ones that may do the trick for clearance / weight

im gonna start with a offset one i've been wanting to get help, was gonna start a offset question thread but knew that would not end well so forgot it...
my question is...
im trying to fit something like a 245-255 tire in the back maybe a 235 tire in front STOCK fenders (maybe some 20mm fronts but that's a big maybe) with roll and NO pull
what would be a good width/offset on a 18inch wheel to acomplish this?

need more information s13 / s14?

those tire sizes are fine you just may not be able to go as low without rubbing

just run a 235/40 in the front

sorry about that... it's for a s13 fastback, im not looking to go fitment whore thread low so that won't be a real problem... yeah f235/r245 is ok with me, so what wheel width offset would be easy to manage into that?

i recently installed gr+ coilovers on my s13 and it is pretty low (not slammed though). my good 'ole jack can no longer slide under the frame rails! what jacks do you guys use for your lowered vehicles? using my emergency/spare tire jack to lift the car just enough to fit the floor jack under is such a pain in the ass. so what do you use? how much was it? where did you buy it? how do you like it? one more thing, has anybody used those wheel ramps successfully on a lowered s13?

1. not baller - wood from home depot $???
2. a little baller - teeny tiny low clearance ramps (search ebay) - $50
3. baller - a second aluminum jack - $100+

the little ramps do work. for most people anyway.
the big ramps (i.e. pepboys ramps) will obviously not.

perhaps you missed what i thought was the rather obvious inherent step of driving the car onto the wood/low profile ramp to gain additional vertical clearance.

edit:
and i hope you know you shouldn't be jacking from your frame rail. use the stock jacking points. 4 spots designated on the bottom pinch welds. crossmember for the front and differential for the rear.

the real problem is getting to the front cross member. none of the standard low profile aluminum "racing" jacks can really get there under zilvia low + aero conditions. the only one i can think of that might stand a chance is

coo thanks for the link! i used to jack the vehicle using the front cross member and differential, but thats next to impossible now. i do put the jack where the pinch welds are, but i have to use an emergency jack in order to get some clearance (pain in the ass and more time consuming) thanks again

180sx ideal fitment goes as 18x9.5 +12 rear 17x9+15 front (GTR sizes)

check this video out

Fq0ImlHCkVU

he runs 225/40/18 in the rear with 4.5 camber slight pull but he's also SLAMMED

less camber will mean not as low to not rub along with larger tire size

but you can still make it look good

as far as 18's up front you're gonna run into fitment issues with a 18 and 235 tire so you'll need to bang the metal inside the well ALOT

here's a 235/40/18

A few people have replied to this already but it really depends on your ALIGNMENT!

Some people can run 9.5"+ wide with low offsets and a 245/40/18, with just a roll but they are running 3*+ of camber.

to both you and s0apgun thanks for the advice, i have no problem cutting banging and rolling the fenders of the inside of the wheel wells. I'm not asking just to have a insane fitment, i track my car not only drift but grip also so to much negativa camber and all that isn't really something i would like to have to do... but like s0ap said earlier, more camber cause of the low height which i don't plan on being slammed either so i can try and work around that... i was planning on doing a x9.5 +15 all around but the most i have seen without a pull with those are F225/R235... that's why i'm asking maybe for a better size/offset combination for my goal maybe somebody had a good advice

Good idea for a thread.

Alright, I've got one that I simply just haven't gotten around to really looking into much.

Once in awhile when I switch the wipers on it simply gets stuck in the on position. Not the switch itself, as I'll put it in the off position and the wipers will still keep going.

It's not the switch as I've tried 3. To my knowledge I haven't messed with the wiring concerning the wipers.

Any ideas where I should be checking first to fix this small, but irritating issue.

just use your tow hooks in the front to jack it up. Their high strength steel and sit higher than the frame rails.

best bet is to just invest in a good low-profile jack. Well worth the money compared to screwing around with extra steps like ramps, etc.

I don't know what you're implying but from experience directly from the owner of the dynos. We have dyno'd on the Dynapacks and driven to a Dynojet and made 7 more WHP with his test car on the same day within a few hours from another. For what it's worth it was a ~3% difference.

Hello gentlemen.

i am in the process of doing a bunch of bodywork to my car at the moment, its a long process but i have to leave my car outside. Its also going to be a few months before it gets painted. So here is my question, what paint can i get (in a can) that will protect my car from rust? I need something that will not chemically react with the actual paint that will be applied later. I understand that primer is not a good idea as it is porous and therefore it absorbs moisture, is this true?

A few years ago when I took off the factory spoiler and filled the holes I sanded the trunk to bare metal and spraypainted it with Rust-Oleum. My roof is also painted with it. Just this regular kind:
http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=24

It's just one coat, with no clear or anything, and it's been through rain and snow pleny of times since, with no problems. I use it on everything, because I have rust-phobia when it comes to my car.
They also have a 'Professional' 'High Performance' line, with most of the colors:
http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=95

Recently I found out that the nearby Lowe's carries all of the colors, so I have switched to using the 'High Performance' enamel, which I'm assuming should be even better, although I don't have any complaints about the regular one. I even used it to cover the rust on my rocker panel years ago, and it still hasn't shown through, haha.

Hello,

I may also be in the process of doing a bunch of bodywork to my possible future car. Is there a proper method, per say, to remove molded aero? Sand down the filler material until the aero is exposed => Source the method used to secure the aero => Remove?

KA and SR MAF are indeed different however the readout on them is only different ~10 hp

Anyone know?

pro sevens have the optional use for the electronic control by tanabe called TEAS i think so yes that would be why

the CAS on the bellhousing is only used for onboard diagnosis of misfire, not to directly control the engine system

you can remove it and i don't believe sohc makes any difference

S14 SR and I'd imagine they're different.

fun fact: ka SOHC maf can be used if sr MAF is not available

but once again yes they're different physically but readout is mostly the same

Why doesn't my knockoff wheels (http://zilvia.net/f/#) impress zilvia?

the primer in a can should protect fine but i the enamel will be better over time

Hello,

I may also be in the process of doing a bunch of bodywork to my possible future car. Is there a proper method, per say, to remove molded aero? Sand down the filler material until the aero is exposed => Source the method used to secure the aero => Remove?

-Yuta

P.S. Yuta, thank you for asking a question I was wondering about a few hours ago.

I'm not sure if i understand correctly but i would sand it down to where it the aero meets the body and dremel the remaining filler until its weak and pop it off

any attachment (securing method) you should be able to see from under the car

cool thread,

when setting the fuel pressure on my SR i take the vac line off, set to 43, put vac line on and it about 35. is that correct?

stock pressure setting is 3 bar (43.5 psi)

check this archive faq

http://zilvia.net/f/archive-faqs/94575-sr20det-fuel-system-upgrade.html

just remember the pressure raises as boost pressure in the intake manifold raises

what's the ID and max power levels of the common MAFS s13, s14, N60, N62, Q45 (P60?)? throw in more if you know them.

s13 - 260hp - mm
s14 - 260hp - mm

q45 maf is 350hp

if you roll the fender, the plastic won't be able to clip into the factory holes.

also, if you lower the car until it rubs the plastic guards, there will be absolutely no need to roll your fenders because it won't be very low at all.

Thanks! all info is greatly appreciated!

to protect from rust
if your going with a can of primer
*epoxy primer
or
*self etch primer

if you have rust already
sand it off

its best to spray with the gun you will save money.

good stuff

if your to bare metal try to use gloves metal and human oil will cause rust.

It sounds like there are some bad connections at your wiper motor. The wiper arms will continue to operate until they reach the base. When the switch is set to off and the arms are parked, then the wiper motor terminals 1 and 2 are connected instead of terminals 1 and 6.

I made 273WHP and 280WTQ with my S14 SR on Stock injectors, MAFS, ECU, Intake Manifold and Turbo with bolt-ons. Boost decreased to ~12 PSI towards redline with a 12.4 AFR.

Dyno'd on a Dynapack 4000.

Wow, I only made 254whp on my S14 SR20 with S15 injectors and emanage on ~15-16psi. I had stock everything minus injectors, turbo manifold, 3" elbow/down pipe, and 2.5" trust DD exhaust. My AFR was probably around 10.5-11ish....so piss rich so I could beat on it safely.

fun fact: ka SOHC maf can be used if sr MAF is not available

This is true for S13 SRs, but there is no US equiovlent for the S14 SR20 MAF. The SOHC MAF plug will work on the zenki (red WC) S14 SR MAF, but the S14 MAF is a 3 prong MAF and the SOHC MAF is a 4 prong MAF.

one of my stupid questions (i have a lot)
but i tried to google/search but couldn't find any answers/diagrams/how-to's/etc.

what is the "proper" way of installing navan side skirts on a s14?

there are two holes in the front for the fender lining so I can just drill two holes in the front of the skirts.
do I do the same for the rear of the skirts and drill two or more holes into the rear quarter panel?

and besides double sided tape, is there anything need to be done on lower side of the skirts where it meets the underside of the car. if you look at the inside of the skirt, there are a number of brackets running along the length of the skirt. is this just for structural rigidity or is something actually supposed to attach to the brackets?

last part of this =x looking at my neighbors corolla with the S aero, it just seems to be attached with double sided tape on the sides and screwed in on the underside of the vehicle. the navan also has a couple holes on the underside, is this supposedly to be screwed into the chassis as well?

:faint:
yah total nub questions regarding body kits or just general DIY stuff but i'm a total nub and i just wanted to do it right the first time =x

thanks in advance! and happy NYE!
hope everyone has a happy and safe one =)

I ran two screws in the front fender, a single self tapping screw on the rear fender and at one point I ran two big screws up through the random small brackets on the underside of the car. I also ran double sided tape on the two flat parts of the skirts that meet the fenders.

In Japan they're held one with a series of clips like US kouki side skirts. You would have to drill holes in the body of your car and buy the 8 dollar a piece clips (I think there are 8 on each side). You can see the holes in the side of my car:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2501/4220054652_a3c27613f7_b.jpg

The yellow things are part of the clip, they slide in and out so some stuck with the side skirts when I took them off.

A zip tie up front and back and some double sided tape will be perfectly fine though.

you should NOT run what your tire says. that's the max allowable pressure. you should run what your car (usually on the tag on the door jamb)or owner's manual says. if you're running extreme stretched tires, some higher target is better, as stated, but the pressure on the tire is still the just max.

I have to disagree on that. If you go from a 215 up to a 235 your not going to inflate the tire with the same psi. If you have 24's on rubber band tires then NO you will not inflate the tire to the psi for a STOCK wheel/tire set-up. So NO, you will not use what the car says. The psi that is on the tag on the car is for stock rims and stock tires. So just like I said, you go by whats on the tire. Unless I guess if they are super stretched.

95KA-Turbo

The offset doesn't matter as much as the type of wheel face you get. When people say their wheels have 'low disk', 'o-disk', or 'super-low disk' or something long those lines that means there is not much room for brake calipers. That usually means the wheel has more concave or a larger lip then maybe expected.

Why or How can spacers where out you're hubs.

Most wheels are made to run in the center of the hub so it doesnt put alot of stress on the bearing and when you change that with spacers or an offset wheel it puts more load/leverage on the bearings.

It depends on the coilovers.

That sized/offset should clear most coilovers without a problem. Since a 225/235 is stretched you will not have to worry about the tire hitting.

Yeah I guess it depends on what coilovers. I have the same set-up in the front with stance gr+ and I dont have any probs.

The offset doesn't matter as much as the type of wheel face you get. When people say their wheels have 'low disk', 'o-disk', or 'super-low disk' or something long those lines that means there is not much room for brake calipers. That usually means the wheel has more concave or a larger lip then maybe expected.

Oh i see, hope i don't come across this issue

Recently hit a curb in my S13....bent my LCA to hell...replaced the LCA...and the hub was still tilted in positive camber....messed around with the UCA and put the car back on the ground...and the tire still leans out just a bit with some positive camber...did i possibly bend something else? UCA? Spindle? any suggestions? i was thinking about getting an alignment...but i dont want to spend money when something else could be bent...

Front frame rail? this is the rear lower control arm...i guess i should peep at the subframe...idk if it would be easy to spot out a bend in it....this fucking sucks..:bash:

PS: Oh forgot to mention...the driver side is fine and the negative camber is still fine on the driver side ever since i lowered the car...its just the passenger side where i hit the curb that still has the slight positive camber from hitting the curb.

My bad, I didn't read your post right then.

Did you check out all of your arms? I'd check the camber arm itself, and check the areas the arms bolt to on the subframe. Compare to your side that didn't hit.

if it were me i'd compare all the arms on that side to the opposite side

check for any major differences, at the very minimum you can source all new stock arms as they aren't worth shit

Yo Jimbo had the same thing happen to me. I thought it was the switch and it wasnt. I checked the hardness that goes from underneath the driver side to the fender well and the wires that are for the windshield wipers were grounding to bare metal. I guess in my case I had just did the hardness tuck because of my car being low it had chewed up the hardness and didnt noticed they were exposed and just did the tuck. So i took the fender off again and check all the wires there and sure enough them wires were exposed and grounding.... fixed it, put everything back on and everything was back to normal.

Not saying this will fix it but hey give it a try :boink:

wikipedia leverage, specifically the word 'fulcrum' and the result if it's placement on a plane

I understand all of that, but this is more 'car' relevant >>

Most wheels are made to run in the center of the hub so it doesnt put alot of stress on the bearing and when you change that with spacers or an offset wheel it puts more load/leverage on the bearings.

thank you, makes perfect sense that the bearing will wear away from the added leverage.

pretty sure it's half inch. the center bore keeps it in the right location, and the one hole you reuse will keep it from rotating so you have some wiggle room.

it's probably a JDM VLSD out of a 180sx or something. the S chassis diffs are the only ones that are simple bolt in to my knowledge (which is limited on this subject). to know what's really inside (final drive ratio, LSD type) you'll have to pop it open.

"decent amount of oil" is a bit unclear, but, if it is like a puddle of oil, then yes that is probably due to excessive blow by or blown turbo (would take a lot). do you have a catch can setup? the valve cover will let out a little, but that is more like a light residue not a puddle.

do you see blue smoke out the exhaust at startup or driving?

All the exhausts I like have 3" piping. At the same time, I'd like to keep my car somewhat quiet. I don't like silencers, plus most look more restrictive than a stock exhaust, while I still want my exhaust to 'perform' decently at all times. I know the HKS Silent Hi-Power has a 2.5" section before the muffler which is what quiets it down, so I thought using a 2.5" gasket between the sections of a two-piece 3" catback might produce similar results.

i just looked at a car for sale.

after i come back from a testdrive, the coolant tank was overflowing.

the guy said it was because it had extra coolant in it and that the motor was freshly rebuilt, so it runs hotter as of right now.

is it true that a freshly rebuilt engine (ka24e) will run hotter than normal untill broken in?

if the coolant is over filled initially, it will overflow until it reaches the correct level. the system gets hot, coolant expands, pushes out what won't fit, and that may cause it to slightly overflow. was the car over heating? it sounds a bit fishy. my rebuild ka24de wasn't running REALLY hot after the first startup and certainly wasn't boiling over.

It run low boost and some smaller injectors (370) t-25, or t-26 turbo on 7 psi. I dont think that motor is really lookinbg for boost, if you weant to push it rebuild the head, and block to handle boost.

Then again if it was me id just beat the crap out of it tell it broke, there are way to stop from breaking it i.e. Wideband and other gauges, oil-water temp things like that can warn you your about to blow. there is always ways to stop bad things from happaning, i ran a 450WHP CA18DET back when i lived in Japan and that was scary but negotiable

You can order a new fairing kit on ebay, I just got rid of my bike and I know several people that have downed their bike and got another one from ebay, almost all of the time they will ship from japan, but search and find out which one comes with the most pieces, some will not include all of the pieces, that is why It may be cheaper. Also, make sure you order one that already has the holes drilled. Some will come undrilled and that leaves you to make the mistake and since it was not istalled by a "professional" they will not replace it. Read all of the warranty remarks and return disclaimers. Check shipping as soon as it comes in and do not be afraid to make the shipper wait till u have opened all of the pieces to check for damage. If it is damaged and not noted on the shippers paperwork the sender can get out of replacing. anything else just ask!!

are you talking about replacement metal for the hatch floor area? i doubt it, and if they do, it's probably not worth the price they'll charge. you could just go to a junk yard and cut it out of another car, or fab up some tubs. they're aren't dimensionally critical so just make something work.

i saw on another forum (NRR i think) someone took a generic metal trailer fender and cut it in half. they got both front tubs for like $22.

Definitly go with Plywood! Won't warp and it's much more durable.
Might as well just go in there and start making measurements. I'd personally do it differently than the stock one seeing as how it only covers a certain portion and not exactly all the area's I'd prefer.

anyone know this?

Depends what mounts you decide to use.

If you buy the McKinney kit it sits about 5mm lower. With an R32 X-member and regular mounts (making the motor sit slightly higher) it sits roughly the same as an SR if not higher.

I want some grippy tires in the front for track days, so keep that in mind. The rears i don't care about as long as the fitment is right and preferably cheap. Also should i run any spacers in the rear (3mm, 5mm)? im not sure what the alignment will be either, so specs for that would be awesome too. Thanks in advance, im a noob at this.

Long story short
-heater core went bad
-removed battery
-replaced heater core
-unplugged my safc II during process
-replugged my safc II
-put battery back in
-cranked car and now its idles funny.

Seems like it gets "stuck" and doesnt really idle back down to normal right away...I have to turn the car off then back on and hope it drops idle.

Any suggestions?

My questions relate to the fuel system. I have an S13 with a KA-T, GT28R, ROM tune, 370s, stock MAF. I run a stock in tank pump along with an Aeromotive inline EFI pump (bought the car with this pump setup). Now that the inline pump is there, the stock metal fuel line is spliced to accept it. According to Aeromotive, the inline pump is good for 375 hp by itself for forced induction and 500 hp when used with a stock in tank pump. If I change both out to just run a Walbro 255 lph pump, I will either have to:

a) replace the metal fuel line

b) reconnect it with a piece of fuel hose or install an inline fuel filter where the inline pump once was (couldn't hurt IMO)

c) find some way to run stainless braided line from the fuel tank to the fuel filter

I also thought of replacing the stock in tank pump with a Walbro 190 lph pump and keep the Aeromotive to have what I figure would support more than the Walbro 255 lph would. Im sure the stock pump is wearing out and its only a matter of time. What to do?

From looking at a flow performance chart, my Aeromotive pump puts out about 230 lbs/hr @ 12 volts and 60 psi of fuel pressure. Walbro pumps are rated in liters/hour. At what voltage and pressure I don't know. Ive looked on a few conversion web sites, and maybe I was too tired to wrap my mind around what to convert to first to get the lb/hr to convert to lph, does anyone know?

Ive also entertained the idea of upgrading my injectors/MAF. Is it worth sticking with the OEM sidefeed style injectors that are expensive or am I better off in all aspects just going with a nice aftermarket rail and topfeeds? If I went with topfeeds, I would also have to get an adjustable fpr, which I probably wouldn't need kind of cancelling out any savings on the price of the injectors, along with the price of the topfeed rail. Are adjustable regulators REALLY necessary if you are not trying to increase the pressure? Any thoughts?

go with one in tank walbro. cheaper, simpler, proven. plenty of fuel for your setup.

where you remove the in line pump, you can re-connect the hardline to steel braided hose using a 37* flaring tool and an AN tube adapter. remove the in line pump, slide the adapter on the hardline, flare the hardline, then screw the adapter into an AN end. google it for better explanation.

sidefeeds are just fine. they are proven. for your setup, or at least the capabilities of your turbo, you will find sidefeeds that flow enough fuel. save some coin.

Assembling the lines themselves isn't that hard, but as far as the fittings to be welded on to the tank I'm wondering if there may be an easier way.

and yes I've repeatedly checked the Nico CA forum, but I was wondering if there was any info on here.

hey Joe,

as far as the flywheel is concerned I'm not sure, however apexi doesn't have a PFC for the ca. haltec? megasquirt?

and as per the gaskets look at the power enterprise gaskets, I'm sure there is one for the ca, and they come in high regard

Question: do I have to change my clutch is I put a t2871r? Or I can run stock clutch without it shredding :)

sr? kat? if you are upgrading turbos your old ass clutch probably won't last long. Exedy stage 1 or higher depending on hp/tq goals

advance auto/autozone/pepboys etc sell the short lugnuts for like .99c a piece. ask them, they're usually in the back in the bulk bolt boxes

Question: I'm budgeting out my build right now. I'm building my s14 to be a DD slammed on 17x9.5s but I was wondering, in terms of control arms n stuff, if I actually need to replace my lower front and rear control arms? after all, its only gonna be a hella flush/DD style car anyway. ..LCAs are pretty damb pricey, lol. thanx
