Option 1 - pay the fine. Option 2 - swap the motor for ref purposes then swap it back after.

more info on option 1. When I got my ref ticket I needed to pass the referee AND pay the fine

This happened around 7:30pm...they made me pulled over into Treasure Island. Is there anyway I can pass the ref inspections without swapping the engine out?

I suggest just payin the fine. Thats how most people get through it or swapping the motor but the KA still has to pass smog also.

I payed $558 in riverside but in San Bernardino I payed $430 so i guess each county is different shit suck's..i just payed the fine didnt take it to the ref since it was only only taking off $100 if i swaped it back to stock good luck...

Ok....I will just pay the fine and not bring it to the ref. I always drive within the law and try not to get pulled, but eventually the loud and big muffler gave me away. need to get a new exhaust system now to be more stealth.

pay the fine, you should pay the same if
you swapped motors and re swapped it back,
it might be more re-swapping
i thin its ~600?

Just say its the stock motor...(cough) in japan...lol.....
A highway patrol on a bike got me in West Covina
The Judge told me: The fine is there ($800.00ish). [1]The only way to be free of the referee is to either sell it to a licensed dealer or junk yard (with proof of paperwork), [2] or get the issue fixed and pass the referee inspection. In both circumstances you would pay a fine due to the encounter with the officer, but a smaller fine in opposed to not having your car ref'd at all which was the $800.00ish.
My fine was a little more because the kid on the bike also got me down for not getting the fix done the first time.

You get points on your license when you get ref tickets and your insurance goes up with those points. DON'T FORGET.
Sorry it happened but in Cali you gotta stay low key.

Wait what? I got a ref ticket and didnt get a point on my record, i think thats wrong, not sure though. But in Cali there is no way of making an sr legal no matter what anyone says, unless the law changes. Pay the fine, dont get pulled over again, FIN.

Sleeper mode is a must nowadays. Cops are looking for anything to make their county some mulah anyways.. Its orders from above, and watch out for those end of the month days.. Just drive cool and give them no reason to get ya.

Think it's the big shiny coffee can look. I use the Apexi n1 duals, looks almost like the stock exhaust.

in riverside it was at that bust at the Hooters meet and in Berdo it was E st/hospitality and i did have a big shiny exhaust HKS hi-power lol but switched it to a summit racing turbo muffler after, it's been cool ever since

Apexi N1 duals looks nothing like the stock exhaust, i think blast pipes look more stockish. Heres a trick, paint your mufflers flat black so its not all shiny.

The shiney makes people go oooohhhh...
Its rare they pull you in traffic over the bay bridge... were you swerving or doing anything? Also what exhaust did you have? Was it crazy loud cause god the AC Transit buses have you covered on that....

Thanks for the heads up Yeah N-1 style exhaust don't fly well with Anti-Bling cops in Cali. Anyone have pics of a BC specII flat black on a hatch? Does anyone know places that still sell the Circut sport quiet exhaust

Thats crazy but I guess do what you gotta do.
Not trying to thread jack but do the cops ever harass out of staters? if so is it minor or like impound your car?
tango009

No, not swerving at all, plus there was stop and go traffic, so not speeding at all. They just saw a slammed 240 with a big ol' shiny can in the back and pulled me over. They said my blowoff valve was blowing out exhaust fumes, and wanted to tow my car away at first. Just got to be stealth and go with some sleeper exhaust from now on. Still looking around for it. Let me know if anyone is selling one in the bay.

You do NOT get points on your license.
That wouldn't even make sense.
How would you having a car that doesn't pass smog give you a point?
You get points for moving traffic violations.

The only way to be safe in Cali is
- low profile Circuit sports style exhaust ( I proved it is good to over 400 WHP)
- Tasteful rims and tires (not too over the top)
- Tasteful and functional lowering (not super low slammed look)
- Tasteful OEM looking lights and blinkers etc.
- No overt tinting or shiney stuff
- Make it look as close to stock as possible on the outside of the car
I drove a 450 whp SR around for a couple years like this...then I decided to rebuild the car out of carbon fiber and lexan...then I took it off the road...lol
