I just put in a new stereo deck and I bought the connecter but it didn't work and it made my 240 not start and the dash lights not to come on so I rewired my deck to the factory wireing and used a diagram the deck works and it starts now but when I turn on my lights the dash light didn't work but the brake light and the clock light works when the head lights are on and it's not the wireing cause I fallowed everything please give me ideas I haven't slept yet since yesterday when I woke up at 9am it's driving me crazy haha please help I even checked the fuses near the kick panel on the driver side and replaced them all if it helps it's a 1989 240sx

push on the brake pedal...and check if the rear lights turn off...i had a problem b4 where the dash lights went out but my head lights brake lights and clock light would be on...but wen i would press the brake pedal my rear lights would go out...this was due to me having a bad bulb that shorted out my system and blew a fuse...it might just be a fuse...double check

I know what it might be look at your TCU it could possibly be that the circuit card solder run is burnt. So in turn you would have to solder jumper leads on the TCU circuit card. This happens because of the after market stereo being installed it isn't set up proper to take the power. But after wards you should be fine... my cluster lights go in and out and I'm still trying to figure it out.

I pressed the break pedal and all that happened was the brake lights in the back came on like normal and where would it be grounded wrong I followed everything that the wire diagram said so where out and is there any other fuses that would cause this other then the ones by the kick panel?

. It's called a period. It's used at the end of a sentence to finish a thought, and so people who read your post can understand what in blue fuck you're saying.
Use it and you'll get better results. I've tried to read that mess three times but I'm not stupid enough to read run-on sentences it seems.

Wow, this is a really looooooooooooong sentence! Ow...my brain hurts.
I have a feeling it's a fuse problem. There is a main fuse in your kick panel fuse box. The one that's got the white box around it on the kick panel diagram. Replace that and see what happens. When that fuse is out, all kinds of wiring gremlins emerge. You prolly popped it when you did the deck install, because you didn't disconnect your neg. battery terminal and then inadvertently touched two wires during the install. POW! Fuse pop.

if you've followed the wiring correctly and thoroughly, then you would know what the problem is.
if you've traced down that particular circuit then you would be able to isolate whether you're getting power or not where you should be.
dual filament brake light bulbs can break and arch over to the other filament and cause stupid electrical problems, but if all the brake lights are working and your dash lights don't come on when you tap the brakes then you can deduce that as the issue.
turn the lights on with the headlight switch then see if both sides of the guage light fuse is getting power, i've seen where the tangs in the fuse block get spread out or the contacts get corroded and they don't make a good connection therefore the power doesn't get transfered from one side of the fuse to the other.
basically your guage lights if memory serves should be powered by a red with blue stripe wire, when you turn your lights on does this wire get power or not? that's step 1, if it is then move on , if it's not then test to find out why.
then if it's getting power, is it getting a ground, if no, then why?
and you continue testing until you find the culprit.
all lights need is a power and a ground so unless every single bulb is bad which i doubt highly then it's missing one of these elements.
and since you screwed up wiring in a head unit, no offense, but 1. you're not that great with wiring, and 2. more than likely you cut something you shouldn't have or blew the fuse for that circuit.
someone did mention the time control unit which does get kicked from time to time and can also cause this. but in any diagnostic you always wanna start out by checking the easiest and most probably culprits before condemning computers and modules that don't really have a set way of testing them besides trying a known good one.
in this case the easiest test is to see if the blue/red wire gets powered up when you turn the headlight switch.
first place i'd look is behind the radio you haphazardly installed the first time. you'll probably find the cut blue/red wire therein

Z U L8R the TCU you is easy to take out and take a quick look at though then leading your self in the crazy path of wire chase...
