I've used the search button to death and I couldn't get a clear answer on my current situation. Quote from the FAQ concerning a 95 + j30 vlsd into a non ABS S13:
There is word on the net there is a way to make these work without shortening the driveshaft or compressing the center support bushing but I have not seen actual proof of this as of yet.

Ummmm not really helping me and I don't want to make a mistake that would cost me $250 dollars. I have a non ABS '93 240sx hatchback and I want to put a 95 or up j30 vlsd in it. Will it fit without any modifications to my driveshaft?

in a word no. thats what the faq says. Like I stated in the faq there is word on the net that there might be a way but I have yet to see it so I cannot comment on it working possibly.
If you are that concerned about it then buy a 300 x rear VLSD and get pre 95 J30 axles for it and it will bolt right into your car with no driveshaft modifications.
I can get you the above mentioned setup for $300 thats $50 more than what your talking about spending . I am in Los Angeles look me up.

cool. I'd be interested in buying a 300sx lsd with pre 95 j30 output shafts from you. Probably soon so I can make a trip up there since school is almost over.

uummm, mine fit very easily. The 95+ diff is about 3/4" longer, not a tight fit at all. I just swapped covers, and bought two new longer bolts for the front mounting points on the diff. I don't know the size of the bolts, so don't ask. I just brought my stock s13 bolts to a hardware store and got matching longer ones. Here are some pics, hope it helps. Oh, if youre getting your j30 from a junkyard, try bargaining them down more, I gots mine for 150 :)http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4290273827

you know what fooddude? Fact is if I stated in the faq that you could do it and someone had a problem it would make the faq look really bad. Not going there!
Also though you say yours fit easily, you readily admit its 3/4 of inch longer .
That technically puts it out of spec with the design of the drivetrain from the factory.
They do put a lot of thought into that design.
Also your driveshaft is designed to have a certain amount of play or shall we travel .
That is why it uses a slide yoke into your transmission. Taking 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch of that travel out of it is increasing wear and tear on other parts of the drivetrain.
Its why I do not recommend it. Getting a driveshaft shortened is not that expensive unless you decide to go one piece.

Now if you want me to explain why Nissan decide to use a two piece driveshaft stock I can.
There are two reasons for this.
One is to eliminate possible driveline vibration that could transmit into the passenger compartment . Which would cause less driver comfort.
Second is the fact that the factory uses non replacable u joints ( costs them a lot less on the assembly line).
Now, because of this the engineers figured out, that if they put the u joints at a slight angle, rather than dead on they would reduce the wear on them .
Big goal here , less wear equals possible lifetime lasting u joints with never having to be replaced.
Now if you do go one piece drive shaft your u joints are going to wear faster but the big advantage is you can get lubeable replaceable u joints.
One piece driveshafts are typically lighter due to eliminating center support bushing.
They also transfer more torque to your rear end that would be lost at the center support bushing.
This has advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages- more power to the wheels
disadvantages- more wear and tear on the driveline as whole due to direct transfer.
thats it in a nutshell.

nice pics, fooddude. did you noticed a decrease in accelation for the different ratio, or the better grip made up for it?

Christ people.. always flameing. kinda gets old..

You can get the back 1/2 of a ABS 240sx driveshaft for like 100$ for a shorter one.. or just go to enjuku and get the ABS shaft.. not that hard.

The 95+ J30 ones "fit". Most people who install them don't have a problem but try it at your own risk.

Does anyone or know anyone that has a problem with the extra 3/4" from the j30 vlsd? I'm curious to know what kind of problems/symptoms that someone or know someone that has actually experienced this.
just wondering...
