I've always unbolted the bottom mount, spun the bottom mount to the height i wanted, and then rebolted everything up. I've also seen people just leave everything bolted up, then just undo the bottom locking ring and turn the inner shock body clockwise or counter clockwise (depending on if they want to raise or lower the vehicle). The second way seems a lot easier but doesnt seem that great for the coilover. What do you guys do?

IT does not hurt anything, think about it.

The coilover turns when you turn, it has to be able to rotate it is simply the design of the pillow ball mount.

Do it! Myself and millions of others have been doing it for centuries.

I just unbolt the bottom bracket and twist it up.
Pretty simple.

I usually put a couple pumps on the jack, crack loose the locking collar, spin the coilover lock it back down, drop the jack back down, really slow with tires on. Also depending on how level the ground is, I only have to jack the car twice!
