I have Z32 brakes on my 240. They are making weird sounds these days when coming to a stop. It's like a crunching/clicking sound, and I can physically FEEL it coming through the pedal. The pads are fine, and they still stop well, but it just seems....off. I'm thinking about taking them apart and rebuilding them, but I'm not sure if it will help. Any thoughts? They were rebuilt when I installed them....

do you have 26mm calipers? what kinda rotors you using? you using rotors designed for your calipers? brake pads all the same but rotors different for 26 and 30mm calipers.. they were both used on 300zxtt

replace your shims, you probably have them in incorrectly. it's a common occurence.

i'm not using shims....just the slimy goo. perhaps it just needs more slimy goo. good call. thanks kalieaire!
and they are 26mm brakes on 26mm rotors, chief . i've had them for almost 2 years now. this is a new development in the past month or so.
i'm going to try new grease soon!

You should still use the shims with the dielectric compound between the shim and the brake. Try not to put too much cause it would be bad for your rotor and pads.(Which I'm sure you already knew)

i always put the crap on after i have the brakes installed completely. i don't want the grease and stuff getting where it's not supposed to.

How funny, I have this problem too, I got the 180sx brake/rotor for my s13 and the brakes/rotors are fine. It only goes clicking/clunking when I depress the pedal really slowly and it only happens on the front-drivers side. Brakes works perfectly fine, flushed brake system twice to make sure, rotors resurfaced and I still couldn't figure it out nor did my mechanic, at first I thought it was that metal back dust plate cover thingy since it's too small for the rotors, but that's not it either. Recently after slamming on the brakes hard couple of times, it hasn't made the sound. Its more of an annoyance rather than anything else...

do you guys have abs?
Heh heh heh.. ABS? ... I don't think many of us have ABS, and even if we did, that ABS junk has a distinct pedal feel... if it were a n00b who posted the original question/problem, sure, maybe ABS, but... no. :D Otherwise, good call though!
