That's one way to do it. Let me offer my opinion.
Replacing the PCV is a very infrequent job, much like intake plenum gaskets and knock sensors. The way I would recommend replacing the PCV is to do a "multi-job".
What I mean is replace alot of parts on your intake side that usually need replacing anyways. I normally replace the following all in one job.
- PCV valve
- Knock sensor
- Intake plenum gaskets
- All large diameter rubber hoses on intake side
- All small 1/4" vaccuum hoses on same side while the intake is out (mainly because they are prolly hard and brittle anyways, air most likely leaking out somewhere)
- AIV gasket and a full AIV part cleaning (carbon build up)
- Do a thorough passenger side engine bay cleaing while you got the parts out, most likely a gritty mess in there.
- Clean EGR and replace the gaskets
- Replace the two intake-to-head studs with bolts (mandatory)
I've done this process on all my 240s in the past, really not that hard. Plus you get a good learning experience for the inner workings of the intake system. Plus doing the complete cleaning and hose replacement helps smooth out your idle and general engine performance.
While it does cost more money in the long run, you will definitely kick yourself when you do just a PCV valve only to find your knock is failing and you gotta get that replaced.
Just my .02

That is cheating.

Once you get rid of bracket it is pretty routine to take the pcv valve off. You really have to free up the alt and move it out of the way though. the pcv kind of sticks a bit when I blow in it but it seems ok. Not putting that damn bracket back.

If you keep up with your engine the intake manifold brackets should already have been removed and discarded anyway, along with the oil pressure switch. Both items are useless.
With those gone you can access the PCV easily from the top. I've never understood these ten page writeups people do where they jack the car up, crawl all under it, and remove extra parts.

Well Yukon, judging by all the oil run off and grit in the pics, looks like you need a new valve cover gasket, or your front main seal is bad and your crank pulley is throwing oil all over the place.
Have you replaced either of these yet?
