i need to get my car into the shop this week, its a 95 base model w/ 71k miles. going to get the belts & hoses all replaced, gear box and rear end fluid changed, and it also has a leak in the front cover, which im going to get replaced. how much should i be paying for this? The dealership quoted me like $900, $800 or so of which was labor. I understand it means pulling the oil pan and someone else also said the timing chain gear, but im not so sure about that. if so, i also wanna get the timing chain tension/guide/whatever replaced while im at it.
oh and if anyone has gotten this done before and knows of a good mechanic in san diego, please let me know, im curious to check a couple different places out

Labor is always steep from the dealership. Do you know exactly where the leak is coming from? If it's the valve cover, you are getting fed your own *** on a silver platter they sold you (for three times it's value) along with the add-on warranty. Come to think of it, same with it being a leak at the front crank seal or upper timing chain cover. All of those are pretty easy jobs that yourself or a reggelar old mechanic could do. I haven't taken off the lower timing chain cover, so couldn't tell you about that.
Find out for sure where the leak is and let us know if you are interested in fixing it yourself (if you have the mechanical ability). You can find information on removing the upper timing chain cover if you search for "timing chain" and poke around a bit.
