Sorry guys... im sure you know how this is however... its 2 in the morning... i have been working on this car since 7 yesterday morning... im dirty... out 10 grand and have a car that remains sitting in the spot its been for 2 months :bash::bash::bash::bash::bash::bash::bash::bash:

So heres what I found

I recently rebuilt my redtop sr (put bc stage 2 cams in ported and polished the head, all new gaskets.... yadayada

Anways I had it all back together and everything was turning and looking good... then I tried to start it..... after 10 times or so of it cranking and trying to turn over we finally took the valve cover off and started looking for problems....

after seeing nothing we tried to manually turn the crank by hand and it wasn't moving... im not talking like under compression hard to turn I mean like locked.....

So finally after smoking a million cigs and scratching our heads we decided to start all over again and take everything out again...

we started with the starter and immediately after I took it off everything was able to move freely....wtf

So here is my question (if you even made it this far after my book above!!)

What the hell is going on the starter was fine when I took it out of the car... is my starter going bad or is it something I did wrong in the install, I thought i had spun a bearing at first cause I knew the mechanical resistance was coming from my crank.... I don't want to buy a new starter if this one is fine, however I need to get this fixed...

if anybody needs more details pm, post, or call me 240-422-3756
I really need help and no flames.... thanks zilvia

maybe the starter overextended and got stuck? did you take the starter apart at all?

put 12 volts directly to it while its on the floor to see if it extends and spins.

No not yet... i had a feeling it wasn't disengaging... however when I pulled the starter off nothing was extending from it

go push start your car ;) ahaha at least youll know your car works.

but you should probably find someone else that has a starter or something? test it out.

How easy is it to turn the motor by hand? Had a buddy overtorque cam retainers so bad that it was causing bind and make the not spin freely. Double check make sure the engine isn't binding before you go and push start it and destroy stuff. The starter can be taken to autoZone for testing.

you can test the starter yourself. no need to take a trip to autozone.

Invest in a flame thrower find an abandoned building and go at it until something clicks. I actually went to the shooting range for about an hour and a half and it came to me like a revelation or something, lol

After removing the starter, the engine turned freely? So you know internally it's not seized and the pulleys are good too.

Inspect the gear teeth on the starter and flywheel, make sure there are no chips or cracks.

When installing the starter make sure the starter gear teeth on the starter are fully meshed with the teeth on the flywheel. While having someone else your engine, stand aside and look to see if your crank pulley is turning over. It sounds like your problem is somewhere in this area.

could be the wrong flywheel...had this problem with my car...car would make a horrible grind noise when i went to go start it....ended up replacing flywheel and all is better
