Wassup guys . I currently have a KA-T setup . I just got my ecu and injectors back from Jim Wolf. They flow tested my injectors to make sure it was all ok and also tuned my ECU.

So yesterday I installed the ECU , injectors and a z32 maf. The car started up put instantly puffed white smoke with a strong gas smell. I assume that it is running rich . I spoke with Jim Wolf and they told me to check a couple things.

The first thing that I did was pull off the fuel rail and injectors and turn the key on to make sure that there were no leaks and there wasnt any.

I remove the spark plugs and theyre all wet with gasoline.

The best way I can describe how the car sounds is PUT PUT PUT PUT PUT

Can you guys give me some advice on how to troubleshoot this problem ?

hmm the joys of a tuned ecu!

well first off the car runs rich untill the engine gets up to operating temp. so if you have bigger imjectors it will be this way untill the engine temp. is up to standard. yes jim wolf should of corrected this but most tuned ecu cant correct cold start open loop.

i have the same problem when im first start up.

couple of things to check:

leaky injector: pull off each injector clip while car is idling one at a time. once pulled off teh injector should no fire and the idle should become really rough. if you disconnect one of these injector clips and nuthing happens, its probably you have a ripped o ring or some thing causing excess fuel to come in.

if you have an adj fuel pressure, you can try to lower fuel pressure to around 30psi to help limit the amount of fuel in the rail.. not the best way to do it but it may work.

look to see if you have a boost leak a large enough leak (loose coupler ect.) can cause a rich condition.

check to see if your maf is connected correctly. iifc two of the wires from the z32 maf should be ran into one wire from the factory harness..

if all else fails you may need to hook up a safc and get a wide band and just lean it out on low throttle lower rpms..

my car is at 10:1 on intial start up, then slowly climbs to 14.7-15.5 on idle once it gets out of open loop. let your car get up to operating temp and see if that helps.

well hope i kinda helped some what..
good luck

buy this,

then come back

:p

btw, White smoke is 99% of the time head gasket, or coolant somehow getting in and burning

most cars puff white smoke (condensation) on startup on a cold day..
mines does it all the time but my head gasket is 100% good...

yes a wide band will help alot

^^ That aem shit is garbage. Buy an innovate lc-1 then come back. Idle afr should be between 13.5-14.7 and in boost should be between 11.5-12 ish. If it's over 12.2 under boost something is off.

You might have to replace your injector seals. I do notice that everytime i have to pull my injectors off i would have to replace the seals... gas would just flow through your manifold and would also cause your sparks to be wet.

i have a z32 mafs and the nismo 555cc injectors and the jwt ecu and my car runs like a champ. I would change your fuel injector o-rings just to be safe(they recommend you change them when you swap injectors anyway)

you can check for leaks past the mafs, but I believe this would make the car run lean when you rev it or drive it because of the extra unmetered air entering the engine.

Did the car run well before all the upgrades?

I thought JWT ecu's only tuned for Cobra MAF's? Could it be a bad maf causing it to run pig rich at start?

I'm not Uego fan either. Innovate or PLX are what we go with. Innovate is nice because you can actually log it though, and then put your consult logs in with logwerks.

Z32, Cobra, and Lightning Mafs

Bad MAF would cause the car to go into limp mode, and not enable you to rev past 4k, and just run all around shitty.
