Is it just one type of hub for both applications or do you have to get one depending on ABS or non-ABS?

If my car has ABS, it has the ring around the hub, so I'm assuming that the 5-lug hub has to have the ABS ring too correct? I'm buying rears oem hubs atm

If you want the ABS to actually work then yes, of course it has to have the tone ring. It is possible to swap the tone rings onto non-ABS hubs I think, buy you would have to be VERY careful.

Does the ABS hub only matter for the fronts or both (front/rear)? Lol newb question

The rear wheelspeed sensor is on the diff, so no tone rings on the hubs.

Ok. Sounds good, so rear doesn't matter. Just have to make sure the fronts are ABS.

Awesome, and thanks for the quick response :D

PS: When buying hubs what should i be looking for? rust? noise? make sure it spins freely on the bearing?

One more question...for rotors. Are their specific 5-lug rotors if you have ABS vs. non-ABS? Is that the same front only and not in the back? Or do they have to be ABS 5-lug rotors for front and rear?

The ABS rotor are 1/10" larger in diameter then the non ABS rotors are for the fronts. The rears are identical.

Ok sounds good. So I have to buy ABS rotors for the front. For the rear its just a rotor; no abs or non-abs rotors.

Dazzla,

For future reference when it comes to parts like brake rotors or pads, just go to any reputable parts supplier website and do a part number cross reference based on what type(s) of cars you need.

I do this all the time when comparing brakes, M/C, sensors, etc.

And to confirm above posts, there are only abs rings on the front hubs. The rear wheels' sensor is located in the diff housing just behind the driveshaft-to-diff yoke.

Good luck.

For the fronts, do I need to get bearings? These are the ones I ordered:
NISSAN 240SX S14 SE 5 LUG HUBS CONVERSION FRONT ABS on eBay.ca (item 360216674902 end time 22-Dec-09 03:04:09 EST) (http://cgi.ebay.ca/NISSAN-240SX-S14-SE-5-LUG-HUBS-CONVERSION-FRONT-ABS_W0QQitemZ360216674902QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors _Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item53de964256#h t_3516wt_1167)

It says that they will bolt on to the existing spindle, yet these ones here 'come with the bearings'
Nissan OEM S14 4 to 5 Lug Bolt on Front Hub Conversion w/ Bearings (http://www.frsport.com/Nissan-OEM-S14-4-to-5-Lug-Bolt-on-Front-Hub-Conversion-w--Bearings_p_3049.html)

Anyone care to tell me which one I'm supposed to get?

Edit: Never mind I think i see the difference. The ebay ones have the 'bearing' its just surrounded by the ABS teeth and the second links don't have ABS.

Those are the same hubs with the exception that the first link in for ABS (Has sensor ring). The bearing on the hubs are already installed and sealed so no need to replace them or buy them separate.

I've yet to actually do a bearing job on a 240. I just source out a used hub or buy them new like you're doing. They last so long as it is one new set and you should be good for the life of the car.

Just make sure you get new hub locking nuts and torque them per the FSM. You don't want a wheel flying off because you screwed up the easiest part of the job.

Why would the wheel fly off? I though the wheel was connected to the rotor, which was connected to the hub, which is connected to the spindle, which is connected to all the suspension arms. I know the axle nut is supposed to be important but I don't see why. Sorry for being a newbie.

It's okay noob.

You said it, the hub is connected to the spindle....via the hub bolt. That bolt comes loose, and you've got a hub spinning on the spindle at 65 mph with nothing keeping it from riding off! And no, the rotor will not keep it from coming loose and flying off. Even though the tire is bolted to the hub with the rotor in between, you still need the hub bolt to keep the hub on the spindle. Also the suspension/steering all bolts to the spindle, not the hub.

Hope this makes sense.
