Need some help here ppls!
I had my 300zx calipers powder coated and in the process I rebuilt them as well (obviously). The question is I got them back together and I got a leak. It seems to be leaking where the two half of the caliper meet. Right where the little o-ring goes. Heres the thing though. The surface that the o-ring sits on was coated as well, so I wire wheeled the coating off until I thought it would be okay. But it's leaking, so im thinking that that surface need to be completely bare metal to get it so seal?
Any advise would be very helpful.

O-rings might be bad. You need to get new ones. They get crushed over time and doesn't have enough thickness. Nissan doesn't sell them, but you can find aftermarket ones in perfect size. Oh! also put a little bit of grease there when you install them.

yeah, i just actually ordered new o-rings from Z1. So i hope thats the problem.
But do you think it's key to have the surface that the o-ring is on to be completly clean? Cuz like i said it got coated.
Pix would help i guess.

you shouldn't of wire wheeled the mating surface. thats as sensible as wiring wheeling a cylinder head, your just asking for leaks...
- i would of used some aircraft remover and a scotch bright pad. to bring it back down to metal.

Mine was sand blasted, but it doesn't leak. It's not just the surface where o-rings seat. Surface that two halves meet need to be clean and smooth too, so o-rings will be pressed just about right. Mine is powder coated, but that surface was untouched, just sand blasted. You know what I mean? I think that's the reason why z32 FSM clearly says 'Do not disassemble.'

Yeah i see what you mean, i was expecting that the shop that i took the calipers to would just sandblast and not coat the surfaces. I only really wire wheeled the top coat of powder off (its two stages) so maybe if i use the stripper i can get down to the sandblasted area.
But im thinking that the stripper would start to eat the fresh powder coat on the outside of the caliper. DAMN!

Well I think I got it figured out! I took the rear calipers apart and realized that I had way to much powder coat on the surface that the o-ring sit on. So I sanded the calipers down very carefully on a flat piece of metal w/ sand paper adhered to that. That way it would be as close to flat as I could get it w/o getting to crazy with it! I’m gona wait for my o-rings to come in and go from there. I could already tell w/ even the old o-rings installed after I did the sanding that it looks like its gona work much better!
