View Full Version : What would Zilvia Do? salvage = moving on?

What's goin' on fellow zilvians,
I recently was rear ended in my zenki s14 (which just hit 200k miles with minor mods with prior damage to the rear quarter panel, and an oil pan leak). I went with an attorney and was going through all the legalities. and i was devastated to hear that it will be a "total loss." (the accident left me with a messed up bumper with internal damage, trunk was pushed up with what looks like bent trunk arms, oh and it is stuck. doesn't open as of now) but the case seems to be coming together now, so now i am left with a tough decision:
1. take the settlement, and allow the ins co to take my car and pay me what the salvage amount is
or
2. take the settlement, and keep my car and they will deduct the salvage fee from what they will give to me (then i can either sell it on my own or have it repaired)
either way i may want to get a new s14 with the settlement. perhaps a kouki or another zenki with less miles and overall great condition, unmolested. or repair mine, keep it and live with the salvage title. mind you all the repairs needed. and i don't have too much experience to fix everything myself. i'm the type to take up a project or learn how to fix something once it needs repairing or changing. so learn as i go, type of deal. of course nothing far from my means.
here she is (my first 240, hopefully not my last)

i'd like to hear what you guys think

Keep it, missle it out.
HAHA fucking teddy!
that is a good idea tho, just keep it and track it, then the title doesnt matter.

keep it with settlement, part out, start over ha

keep it. even if you part it out you'll probably end up profiting.
or just missle it.

I got my Zenki in similarly-fucked-rear condition, and even doing all the fabrication myself, it's incredibly difficult to get everything to match up back there. If you're going for a 'clean'/stock look, fight for as much money as you can (showing what good condition Zenki's sell for in your area) and let it go. Then buy a new unmolested one.
That car will never look normal again, since it's not worth putting in the amount of money it would cost to have it done right.

hmmm... guys at the rx7club seem to be talking smack about us on zilvia. one guy called us fan boys for "playing out" the term missile and saying how we just learned the term and just started calling our beaters missiles to sound cool.

what does "missle it" mean??

its a stupid word people use.
yyou cant have a 'missle' car unless you already have a radical car
it just means beater car. a car you dont care about.'
but that only counts when you have a radical car too.

+1.
the point of having a missle car is so you can practice really aggressive entries and getting as close to wall/objects as possible without worrying about smashing up your nice car. (emphasis on also having a NICE car too.)

if i was you i would keep it and make it a track car.
if it costs <$500 to buy it back, I would just buy it back and part it out entirely and leave the shell for the junkyard to pick up.
depending on its options, ie: 5 lug, 5 speed, it could be worth more parted out.
That is if you have the room to part it out in.

fakkk gl man i got rear ended aswell just 2 weeks ago but it was just my bnumper(thank god) and well yeah man i honestly would keep part or track(missile) but if it seems like too much for you to handle salvage it get some cash and well start over maybe have more money hopefully ur getting cash for some "pains and aches" cause if u are ur set! payments for the rest of your life! or a big settlement!

have they given you a estimate on how much the settlement would be ? i'd say settle and get as much money back as you can and find another clean S14 and start over the right way.

do you have reciepts for all the things you bought for it? I would say get a lawyer and let the insurance company pay your for the settlement... I had a 95 celica with some rims a paint job and a nice stereo.... I got 5k for the car plus another 5k for my injury settlement (fucked up my back)
so with that 10k from a shitty fwd celica I bought a 240, put a sr in it. and built that up.. put some even nicer work wheels on it... and now have a legit car.
You could do it 2!!!

that must be the rx7club drifting, 2nd gen or a regional subforum. i'm sure 75% of rx7club has no idea what missile even means.
on topic, the damage doesn't look bad at all. the car is definitely fixable. does not deserve to go to the junkyard. take your settlement, buy it back and sell it at cost to someone who can put it back together.
if you're really into clean respectable cars and all that (that aren't complete wastes of money) i really suggest getting out of 240's entirely.

I don't think i have to buy back my car. I already have it. however i do have the option of selling to the other party's ins co. And it's a 5 speed, 4 lug.
I don't really want another car brand, I love my s14! :D I don't think theyre a waste of money. Nor do i think they aren't respectable. So Nay on getting out of 240s. I just want a clean one and thinking about using the other to track, with out having to worry about my new paint, wheels or kit
I'll try looking for this insurance guy

Not that bad hmm think about it long and hard. My friend hit a guard rail slightly and they said his car was totalled and they were going to take it and give him some money. He has a 98' kouki that he bought for $15,000 when it had 30k miles on it. He was pissed, he got it back, replaced his bumper support and headlights that was it, radiator support wasnt bent or anything. I hate the way insurance companies think about that stuff lol.

Insurance don't know wtf they are doing, a suv backed up into my zenki and fucked up the hood, and cracked the bumper on the sides. I called my insurance and they told me to drop it off for repairs and as soon as the estimator came out he told me it would be a total loss, I looked at him with a "are u fucking kidding me face" they kept the car for a week and were gonna give me a check, then I decided to go through the other guys insurance but I took it to a local shop. The dude got $2300 for repairs, I got a new hood, and complete body work and paint job. I lucked out and still have clean title but I learned my lesson, "don't take ur shit to the insurance shops" they total cars for the stupidest reasons

A car is totaled based on how much damage there is vs how much kbb for your car is.

Yeah, and even then they can lowball you on what your car is worth by the "FMV" or "Fair Market Value" i.e. what the S14s in the same year, mileage, and condition locally are.
They look for the cheapest beater looking ones and make an offer based on that.
This thread (http://zilvia.net/f/chat/155652-insurance-claims-s13-5500-a.html) really needs to be stickied for threads like this one.
Oh and in response to all the RX7club geniuses over there...
Some guy was asking which car would be better, a Mazda MX-6 or an S14 zenki?
Guess which they voted?
True story.

buy it back and part that shiv out yo. i did that to my 1990 that got tapped and i made more than i bought the car for. s14 specific parts are usually worth more due to them being newer so you could make a good chunk of change off it and save anything that you may need for your new one. i personally love having a stockpile of oem parts at my demand for whatever may come up
