OK, I recently bought my car, a 1990 240sx hatchback, and it didnt come with a cigarette lighter. So I went to Autozone and purchased one. I noticed that the 2 wires that plug onto the cigarette lighter were in 2 plastic boxes that were molded together side by side. The cigarette lighter has 1 prong on the bottom and 1 prong up on the side, so the wires wont reach the 2 prongs unless i seperate them. So my question is, can i seperate the 2 wires by cutting down the middle of the 2 plastic boxes or will that mess something up?

i've never seen a 240 w/out a lighter. it's in the center console, by the power mirror switch. if there isn't the actual lighter, just the hole, go to nissan and get a new one. it'd be a lot easier than wiring up a new lighter.

IIRC, and you know where the wires go to, yes it is saf to split the wires no harm done...

"two bonded squares"

maybe its a wiring clip. I dont think they just solder the connections from the factory, but use clips.

If you dont smoke and just need a power outlet you can probably hook that lighter you bought up anywhere.

but if you can cut it, cut it

I got it working. I just broke apart one side of the plastic squares and took out one wire to get it up to the side. On the way of trying to put it back, the electricity was flowing and i touched a bolt or something and it shorted out a fuse, so i wrapped it in electrical tape. So now everything is cool. Oh yeah i dont smoke, i needed it for some type s mood lights to shine on my gauges since they dont glow at night. I replaced the bulbs and they still dont glow so it must be a unconnected wire or something. The fuses are good and the clock glows so I dont know whats wrong. I got the car for 800 bucks so theres alot of things I'm fixing.
