Just found this out pretty crazy if you ask me.... but The World Rally Championship’s governing body, the FIA World Motor Sport Council has just confirmed that as of 2011 competing vehicles must use non-turbocharged naturally aspirated engines. Click the link below

F1 died, ferrari etc gone.
WRC soon to follow, Subaru, S.Loeb, Mitsubishi, etc gone....
Ken Block is good driver, but against Sebastien Loeb, he is a back marker. Who was he before D*C shoes and Monster/subaru? NOBODAY
Ah you are a little behind the times. F1 is not dead and Ferrari is still in it as well as BMW/Sauber etc.. I suggest you not post stuff if your not keeping up with Current events.

im not sure what the fia's reasoning behind this decision was, but itll be interesting to see what the teams do in response. im thinking something along the lines of wildly variable cam timing (like vtec/mivec/vvtl on steroids and on both int/ex cams)

Why not run two classes? Turbo cars and non :duh:

the class is 300HP turbo limited with restrictors... it wasn't exactly record breaking power.. they just made broad powerband cars.. nothing like the old turbo audi days..
getting rid of turbos makes the maintence easier.. no one crys "cheater" any more.. the cars will go just as fast.. and now manufacturers won't have to make a turbo awd sedan to compete in wrc. A 4door awd sedan will work. it's alot easier to sell those. This might spell the end to the evo and STI though. The new Subaru WRX with new V6 NA awd. Sounds sacrilegious.
so what manufacturer doesn't have a 300hp NA motor any more?
10 years ago if you asked you'd get chevy/ford v8's,etc.. now you get a ton of asian and euro v6's that meet that in production cars and plenty of I4's from anyone in race trim can hit 300hp. Should do what they say. Attract more manufacturers to join.

I wonder if this rule change will have any effect on the production EVO's and WRX's in the future.

this rule change seems to only last until 2013 according to the source, which will allow for more manufactures to join in under the na rule, then they will more than likely class the cars in 2013 by turbo or na. Thats what i'm gathering at least, and i think its alright, mitsubishi and subaru have been out of rally for some time now anyway and they are still releasing evos and stis so i wouldn't worry about that.

So maybe we will see some NA 300 AWD??? Could get interesting. The turbo and non turbo class thing isn a bad idea IMO.
