ok everyone, I've run into some headaches with my 40 but this one is a doozy. A little recent history, my car was leaking exhaust for a while so I put it in the shop to get it fixed. At that time I put on megan headers, 7 layer exhaust gasket, new turbo inlet and outlet gasket, and hks adjustable wastegate.
After running the car around I set the adjustable wastegate around 12psi, held like a rock and she ran great.
I get back from my week away for thanksgiving, put on all new rear suspension arms, drive to the car meet, she started up and ran fine but she died as I pull into the parking space.
I could get her to idle fine after a while, but at first she wouldn't turn over or bog down and die shortly after starting. When I tried to drive her away she would backfire like mad, like really insane. I tried to drive home, not far and got stuck on a hill.
My buddy and I come back the next day, messed with the ecu wiring, looked like two wires just came loose. Opened up the hood to find the connector on the cas came loose, pushed it in and drove perfect home. I was pumped and mistakenly thought this was the end of my drama.
Yesterday we wired in my safc, got it running, put in hot wire 6 in and 0 out with 4 cyl selected, arrow pointing to top right. Car started finally and idled nicely. Drove her around the block and started to sputter at low rpms, wouldn't rev up and would cut out unexpectedly, but was able to slug it home at low rpm in second gear.
Now currently she starts and will go to idle fine but when I rev her up she just bounces off around 3000rpms like a rev limiter on a drag car or something. This is also while making sure the cas harness is in all the way and revving it by opening the throttle manually instead of using the peddle.
what I think are the problems
positive battery terminal is corroded (electrical was cutting out at first after the safc install, tied the positive end of the battery down better and worked fine)
cas harness (the clip and wires coming out of it all seem a bit mangled, gonna get a better look when it's light out tomorrow)
safc settings (of course and I'll have them set right on monday but would this be enough to make the car bounce off 3g's like this, also it did work for a bit on these settings)
ecu wiring (there are still two mystery wires coming off the ecu that arn't connected to anything, however as mentioned before the car ran fine with these loose wires after pushing the cas connector in)
ecu itself (worried that the ecu might have been damaged because of mishandling but it's been through many harsh drifting event and held up fine unbolted behind the kick panel)
Now I've SEARCHED, I have many links to sources that have ideas but no real solutions and no one with my exact problems. Sorry for msg length but I wanted to be as discript as possible. Most will probably say SAFC, SAFC, SAFC and your right, I'll get the right settings for redtop with stock maf on monday and she wont be driven until then. If you need further info I will gladly provide it. My safc seems to be reading all the monitored fields accurately and before I set up the hotwire I reset everything (it was used).
Please help, I'm at my wits end with this car and all this recent work was mostly done in an effort to get her to be more reliable. I'm sure this post will get some criticism and cynicism but please save it and help me out. I'm calling apexi usa first thing on monday. I really dont want to put it in a shop up here since no one knows anything about sr's round these parts.
thanks ahead of time for your time. I really hope to get this wrapped up so I can go back to work!
