Hello Zilvia =D. i was wondering what particular coilover brand would you guys recommend? I have never owned a set of coilovers, and its time for me to get some. i honestly would much rather have a more comfortable ride and only take it out to the track once a month "DRIFT DAY". I wana be able to go really low but still be comfortable. im not really into 30/32 way adjustable since i have heard sooo many clicks before you feel a difference! 15 way sounds about right for me. I dont wana start out with a crapy/cheap pair! can you guys please guide me in the right direction? or mayB even refer a better coilover for the buck =D im mostly willing to spend aroun 950-1200

once again thank you for the help =D

i have rode in a s14 with a set of tanabe pro S and i loved it! but when i looked at the pair online it did not have much teeth to lower/raise and i do wana go low, im not shure if i could go low enough for my liking, i knoe coilovers are expensive and i dont want to cheap out! espetialy buy a second set because its not to my likeing. =D

LOL HELP ME FIND MRS.PREFECT COILOVER =D

thanks again.

Go with Stance, you won't regret it.

Thanks for the advice ^

and i forgot to mention, I would go with the PRO's if i chose stance... =D

Ive seen someone post that they had rode stance and called it bumpy, and that his DMAX is softer at the softest setting =D

I have heard DMAX is verry under rated compared to stance/powered by MAX

but then again not manny people ride DMAX! "from what i knoe" >_<

If you can wait a bit longer, I will soon test out a set of Fortune 500 and I can let you know how they go.

I also had Stance and Megan on the same car before too :)

I love my Fortunes. I've had Megans and JICs, and the Fortunes ride much better then both of those. I've ridden in cars with Stance and they ride better then those too. I am running 9k/7k springs too, if you ran softer springs and got their street valved ones they'll ride even smoother then mine.

Fortune USA is in Richmond VA (like 2 hours from me) so a bunch of people in my area have and love them as well. I have not experienced a better riding coilover for an S-Chassis car.

I currently own dmax. I havent had mine on the lowest setting available so i cant tell you about comfort, plus all the roads are shitty and are in the process of being repaved and shit like that.

If you looking to get a coilover that goes low, then i wouldnt recommend dmax, from the pictures im about to post, the fronts are maxed out with all collars still on and if i were to take them off id probably only get another inch unless i messed with the preload. However for the rears, i could have the fender sitting on the lip if i wanted. I need adj arms in order to go lower in the rear or maybe a little pull but i want it done right.

Anyways...

I know these aren't what you had in mind, but I thought I would let you in on what I like from my experience in 240s over the years. I personally like the TEIN control master type flex :coold:. Never had anything else but have sat in friends cars with different coil setups. I still prefer the TEINs over everything I have been in or test drove. Check on their website for height adjustments. They go low enough for me. lol.

Why the hell would you want to go any lower, the car looks perfect. You just need a little wider tires to fill that little gap...

id like to try dmax at some point. these ksports i have will not die.

That amazes me, I never thought killing k-sports was a problem... :D

I have had both flexes and stances. The flexes were a little better for city street driving. They were a little more compliant to dips and bumps on city streets. The stances were buttery smooth on the freeway though, the flexes were not. You could feel every little crack in the freeway with the flexes, not with the stances. The flexes also felt a little "mushy" on the track, not bad, just a little soft. The stances felt better, but were a little jarring and the car was a bit more easily upset over big bumps. All in all I would probably go with the stances before the flexes if I had to choose again.

i have in this order: Tein HE, jic flta2, tanabe DD, stance (GR and GR+PRO), dg-5 (i know im missing one more coilover in there)

but id go to stance for sure
great customer support. ease for parts and rebuilts and you can custom order too if needs be. i needed shorter front springs and 9/7kg and it was no problem. its not a crazy custom thing, but its that little stuff that makes a difference imo.
stance always is availble for support/service questions (CALL, dont email, long distance is free).

why over DMAX
ive never tried them. honestly, never will. My friend has them and likes them .but in the end it comes down to rebuild and customer support. beyond that, its budget.

I just ordered Fortune Auto coils. I ran KTS Spec-B Coils when I was in Japan for my 180sx and the ride quality was decent for coilovers. I didn't really notice much difference when adjusting the dampening on KTS coils. The Fortune coils I ordered are supposed to come with 9k/7k springs, will be doing a write up once I get them.

Fact: Fortunes ride better then any other coilover I've experienced. The only ones I haven't experience on your list are the DG-5s....which are not comparable because they're 2500 bucks.

Also, Fortunes have a digressive compression curve, which you will not find on many full coilovers out there for S-Chassis - I don't know of any that have one other then possibly KW and Moton?

I have stance coils. for daily and track. they go really low.....and they are nice on the daily...great for highway. I have already put over 30k of freeway driving on them...and no problems. I drive a 14 with 18s....and if I really wanted, I could put the frame on the floor. my exhaust right now is like inch and half off the ground....and the rear tires are tucked. I'll post a pic when I have time. haven't tried any others on a 14. on another note...megan is coming out with a new version of theirs( lower and adjustable)...I heard it's pretty dope if you are not purchasing till mid 2010.

Obviously your mentally retarded or just didnt feel like reading but in my post i said that the roads over here suck ass and are in the process of being repaved.

I am running a 45 series tire up front and i have them cambered in so that i dont rub when i hit a bump and turn. I could have them rubbing against the fender but like i said i couldnt drive anywhere. Almost everyplace i go, my front scrapes hard and i have even been stuck one time.

Back on topic,

Like Dousan_PG said, when it comes down to rebuilding them and customer suppost, dmax isnt gonna be there because dmax is mainly in jp. I heard that if you bought your dmax's within a year, you could replace the dampeners if something happens but im not sure if thats true. If you want a uber low, then dmax isnt for you. Comfort is a personal preference. You'll just have to find out yourself if you like the comfort of your choice of coils.

I have no complaints on my coils at all, i just wish they had some customer support.

I have Stance GR+ from about 2 years ago. I love them for the price. I was going to get Megans but Enjuku suggested that I run these as they were what they were running on their drift car at the time. I had and issue with binding on the fronts 4 months after. I wrote to Stance and they promptly sent me new top hats free of charge which took care of the issue. When I got the c/o's installed, we didn't put the little rubber boot they give you to cover the click assemblies which is supposed to protect them from the elements. That resulted in them snapping off when I decided to adjust them. I called up Stance and they sent me new click assemblies. Problem solved. Also if you need to rebuild a coil you don't have to send them your old 1. They'll send you the shock and you just take all the bits off your old 1 and you're good. No crazy downtime on your car. I don't have experience with DMAX so I can't really comment on them.

the dampening adjustments are so close to my front sway bars. its retarded.

also. my front top hat bolt things bind when i turn. and i have tried my ass of to stop it.

so yeah. im not a fan of stance. mad money too. but they ride pretty good.
maybe i was unlucky.

Id get pbm with shorter springs with 8/6 spring rates for a softer comfortable ride.

I'm rolling on DMAX Drift Specs on my S15. They work great, go low, and definitely are adjustable from soft to firm. They are a little bouncy when comparing it to OEM springs/struts. Then again, I got mine 2nd hand for $600 from UpGarage here in Japan.

I don't think low as possible is it...I just think that the fenders shouldn't have finger room in between the tires and fender. and if at all possible...to have the aero close to the floor. If you can't drive around like that....then you can't drive around like that. imo i just think cars that look like race cars with good wheel fitment is badass. My aero isn't as low as possible...i just drive around a town that has 5 foot dips.

my resolution for a car that can't go lower, yet still has a gap...go bigger wheels. I'm one of some that like that look. most people don't. But 20's on a s14 does look gay. imo.

I've not had the opportunity to ride on the D-max or fortune coils, but I feel like I've heard so many great things about these three companies that no matter what way you go you would be happy, GL with your coils I'm sure regardless you'll be happy in the end.

Quick ADD-on Question

I'm thinking about purchasing StanceLX+ because of the lower spring rates i believe 7/5k? I chosed this because after getting megan tracks before 10/9k i think(probaly wrong but very high) it was wayy to stiff for daily driving.

Personal experience with LX appreciated.

I know that GRPROS are gonna be better for track but how are they on the street? don't they come with a second set of springs that are softer?

what should i get?

what is digressive valving, and why is it good...

( briefly )

In short, digressive valving will let the car handle extremely well like it would with any stiff suspension but on bumps/other fast motions the suspension acts smooth and does not get upset. So you get a good riding suspension that handels good.
