im just wondering what are the consequences for removing some heat shielding from the exhaust system. does the cat really get hot enough to pose the risk of starting a fire?
all the cat heat shielding does on my car is rattle like a mofo. id like to get rid of it, but im not trying to bring smokey the bear down on my a$$

don't park over tall, dry grass and you'll be fine.

:D well, not totally...just make sure you don't drive the **** out of the car on the way there (and make it a short trip) and then just keep the windows open to smell for burning grasses. safe!

bah, what sort of emergencies do you have in a forest make out session aside from your cat starting a wildfire under your car?

Back on topic :P
The cat definitely does get hot enough to catch things on fire. Before straight up removing the shielding, you may want to check out where it is rattling and see if it can be fixed. If it can't, you will be OK as long as you stay on the streets.

please do not remove the heat shield!
There are 4 screws that will get rid of the rattle located under the heat shield for the cat.
I removed mine when installing an exhaust system BUT, on a 20 mile drive i noticed my butt getting really warm. I also noticed that the center of the car was getting too hot to touch.
I bottom thing is a heat sink. The top part is a heat shield. Dont remove either. Don't have a sweaty butt.

I think I burned my leg due to the fact that I have no carpet. I imagine with no sound deadning this could be more severe.
