I just installed my newly purchased 94 j30 diff with 5 bolt axles and about 10 miles after I installed it, It started to whine. It only does this when accelerating and when I am at a constant speed at any mph. It got so loud that I literally couldn't hear myself think. I was just wondering if I am going to have to replace the carrier bearing or if it is something else that I need to replace. I used the stock non-abs driveshaft and I have heard that could be a problem but only if you leave it like that for a while.
Oh, and the oil was a little low and it was installed on a s14. It has all new wheel bearing, ES subframe bushing, toe rods, rucas and stance Gr coilovers.
Any advice and help is much appreciated.

YouTube - rear differential whine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CK8zAAw4AA&feature=related)
This video kinda shows the "type" of sound coming from my diff. Mine is about 50 times louder though.

well the j30 diff is ABS, you have a NON abs driveshaft, meaning it's longer...
so, my question to you....how much space is between your transmission tail shaft and the actual driveshaft ujoint....
you probably have like 1/8"..

Make sure you aren't pinching the E-brake lines with the driveshaft. That get's very loud and can get hot enough to do damage to your face as your gas tank eslodesz.
Two metal tabs to tuck them up in on the heat shield.
Otherwise I doubt the difference in length would cause the while.
FILL THAT SLOP WITH DIFF FLUID IF IT'S LOW!

Did you change the fluid in the lsd?
What kind of fluid are you running?
You need the abs driveshaft its shorter to compensate for the longer j30 diff.

I just swapped the ring gear and pumpkin because the cause for the noise was the pinion bearing in the j30 diff and since my open diff had the good bearings I just did the chunk swap. I got to tell you it was alot easier than I was thinking it would be. Anyone can do it as long as you have a vice and breaker bar.
There was one thing about the output shafts and the way it had to be shimmed in, it left a 1/8th inch gap between the oil seal and shaft. The diff has three shims, one thick one and 2 smaller ones. Well on the j30 the thick shim and one small shim go on the right side with one on the left. But the open diff was the complete opposite. Would it be alright like that, with the gap?
As of right now I am running mobil 1 oil just to clear out the debris. Once I feel it is clean enough I will swap to either redline or royal purple.
