Like many of us (myself included) I don't think RUF is a big checker of PMs. :D If you want to get in touch with him, your best bet would be email.
As for the SSS... good deal! I'm looking forward to helping you install that sumbich! heh heh. :p Stoko! We'll have it in by next Sunday, no doubt.

how would you change it from a 1.5 to 2 way? a button ? i assume 1.5 for daily driving and 2 for track? But then again Dousan does things just a tad bit differently!
It's not easy. If you are familiar with how a clutch-pack LSD works, the SSS pressure plates have 2 sets of holes. One set is 1.5-way and the other is 2-way. It appears that the LSD has to be disassembled to be switched between 1.5 and 2-way operation.

i thought this lsd was adjustable 1.5/2 way via torque set between output shafts? it would almost be hardly worth it if you had to disassemble the unit to change. i can only dream of having 1.5/2 way adjustability, the ultimate lsd.

yes that's correct.
that's why ruf said:

means get the output shafts out and readjust (seems via torque setting)
should be in soon. PICS VERY SOON!!! (got them but not online yet)

Are you going to install the LSD yourself? or having someone do it for you?
funny thing is my LSD came in the exact same box. LOL.
Dousan_PG
05-27-2003, 09:36 AM
nah, shop does it for me. same place Jspec goes. SHOULD be >100 USD for in the pumpkin. sam told me the know their sh!t well and no need to worry. :)
ill install it on the car and break it in myself and with help of some good friends.
suggestion: buy new drain and fill plugs for the diff. mine are all worn anyways right now
one problem we fear: the new might not fit the USDM rear cover.if not i'll swap on my JDM tyte current LSD cover. might do it anyawys, it has fins for cooling which the USDM doesnt (open diff)
i guess im the USA test subject hehe...

go get a general idea from nismo japan site
or email ruf and see what he sells it at.
best? not necessarily. best is up to driver's needs.

05-27-2003, 04:25 PM
Aaron, I'm just going to clear something up... its can switch between 1.5 and 2 way via the outer "cage". instead of 4 notches for the cam to engage the LSD, there are 8, so you can take the outer casing, rotate it 45 degrees, and it will be the other cut. Here is an explanation of the differences: http://www.kaazusa.com/answers.html#whatway
The torquing of the bolt done on one of the output shafts will adjust your required breakaway torque. This is what will be helpful... on the street, more torque needed to lock the diff will result in normal U-turns and slow speed manuveuring. A lower initial torque requirement will be good for the track where you want predictability at high speed and the most performance (for drifting I a referring to).
You should drive first at Vegas (not that it matters) but it would be funny if I were the first one to actually use your car with the new LSD. Heh.
p.s. ruf is sending mine to Hawaii. I don't know if I already told you. But i won't need you to steal an extra diff housing for me.
Dousan_PG
05-27-2003, 04:30 PM
trust me. you wont be the first :p
ok so i guess ill go mid setting for breakaway torque? what do you think?
a good compromise.
btw: dorifto i got you the drifting mag today. so dont worry about finding it up there in the LBC

05-27-2003, 04:52 PM
wow sounds nice... i got a few cool things today, my RS*R springs (they are the wrong ones, doh!), and my Z calipers! i really need to get a Z diff, but its just not in the cards right now.
btw, i saw your car on speedvision yesterday. it was during the autoweek show. they were covering the RS*R drift event. the only moving shot of it i saw though was in the end during the credits. still, thats awesome man....
DoriftoSlut
05-28-2003, 02:07 PM
Thanks buddy. I stop at every 7Eleven I can find here in the LBC but I can't find it. D'oh. We'll fool around with the LDS in vegas. Depending how the event is setup, maybe set it mild first, then i can run it like that, then we sitch to full track setting (yessssss) and give it a go, and by the end of the day, we will find out what seems to be working the best for our styles, etc... I think a full on race/track spec will be nice, no lag for initiation etc...
btw, did you get my message regarding our housing?
I'm off to write that email thing for the Ikaten event, so call me or pm me on FA (better PM than here) if you have anyting important. Peace.
You guys can expect 2 seperate write ups about the S.S.S. after 6/7 event.:p
Dousan_PG
05-28-2003, 03:10 PM
ya could do it at the track but that would require some jacks, stands and a GOOD torque wrench (not my cheap one) i'll have it set to hardest setting for now
check FA for the info there
got your message, ill find out w/ nicky and let him know tonight
yeah i got your mag
im out of town so well meet up in week or i'll give it to danny when we meet up this week
the SSS is 3 way torque adjustable. they desribe it as "soft, medium, hard" i'll be on the last one.
it is 2 way and ruf schooled me on FA about the 1.5 and 2 ways difference. im learning..slowly :)
full write upsoon. i am going to TRY and get it on thursday night. too bad you have school doritos.

its in! its in the car
WOW its so rude
small turns (even the smallest) it will clunk and engage (im not using any additive right now)
even going from a left turn at a signal onto a street, it will engage and skip
haha..its really great.
very quick engagement. very strong. can feel it very clearly
i LOVE IT! cant wait to jump on the track and go drift :) 1 more weeeeeek!

How did the install go? any problems?
Dousan_PG
05-30-2003, 08:59 AM
oh shop installed it into diff for 75 bucks..perfect. dropped it off wednesday, picked up thursday.
into car was the usual stuff
unhook and push exhaust to side
remove sway bar
remove all bolts holdingdiff
drop diff
reinstall new diff
put everything back in place
fill w/ fluid
break in
eat some food
drain fluid
refill with fluid
:) that's it!
took us 6 hours (toso and i) we work slow and only one working at a time. also took some time for dinner and all..started around 7pm, finished about 1am
review next week (after weekend)
dorifto will review it too since he is driving my car for some of the day :)

but i guess my top speed will be better now. hehe
i was told when i go turbo go 3.9 for drift. hmmm

yeah first gear on mine is pretty useless... I'm forever hitting the revlimiter there. I'm soo tempted to go back to the 4.08. maybe if I pick up another LSD I can drop it in my old pumpkin. but that means a whole new LSD. maybe someday lol or if/when we start this S13 project car it'll get this one and I'll get a new one for mine.
Why not just buy a new ring gear?

I need a second car lol. currently my LSD is in an S13 pumpkin with S14 rear cover. so I've got an S14 pumpkin et all just sitting there. maybe when my exhaust comes in I'll take it all down and hybrid um steal moms CRV for a couple days. we'll see.

Is the final gear that noticeable? I have a Tomei and I believe it came with a 3.916, I suppose the car feels slower when taking off, but I'm not much of a top speed person.

I heard it was better for boost, allowing you to stay in gear longer. If that is so, I hope it goes well with the rb25 as soon as I sort out this mess with my suspension. Sorry, I think i'm gonna keep the final for myself dousan.

yeah the taller gearing keeps you inthe power band longer.. shorter gets you to the power band faster though. as I said first gear in my cars a joke. soon as the turbo starts spooling its time to shift. its sick. the big question is whats the ratios on that RB tranny. that'll tell you how its gonna react to the 3.9 gears. I'm curious what the CA18 ratios were that used the 4.36...

ok follow up...at the track!
WOW it feels SOO GOOD
its fully engaged BEFORE i hit the corners and its so smooth. took a run or 2 to get used to it but it feels soo good
i can come into the turn, lock up all fours, slip around a cone and power out and the lsd is engaged teh whole time and the car is so stable and controllable i LOVE IT
not sure if its on the HARDEST setting but i'll find out this weekend when we drop it and check it out.
feels great. i love this product SO MUCH. really night and day. the OLD lsd still rocked, (check out the ics at the top stick in the recent car pic thread) the old was great, but this clutch is very different from mechanical (gear) LSD. i like them both but i really undersatnd why drifters use clutch LSDs. engagement and lock up is amazing. glad i learned on the mechcanical, i think of it as like learning VLSD. you learn your CAR more then the parts on the car.
upgrade as you improve :)
wow. next weekend D1 gp driver search...should be great, because ill have a new and VERY important addition to the car :)

What car was I driving then!?!?!?! Hahaha. I LOVED Aaron's LSD, but our car setups are a little varying in taste (I loved Nicky's car on the other hand) but that is just due to different drifting styles. As for engaging and performance of the LSD... only time I could get a hang of the car was coming into a tight hairpin. Lets just say it worked better than you can ask. Went like this:
Come in mid-high rev 2nd gear.
Feint and sidebrake, clutch in.
Full counter steer, pop clutch, add throttle.
Clutch in, lock up fronts, downshift to 1st.
Clutch kick, modulate throttle and adjust steering.
Accelerate full throttle out of corner.
As I shifted to second all day in aaron{s car it would threaten to step out on me (fast hard shifts with full throttle acceleration).
All in all... smoooooth LSD, not harsh at current setting, and chassis that is way to rigid and willing to rotate... errrrr maybe i just suck.

i think i was about same...but not as smooth
mine was like
come up to hairpin/cone in 2nd
feint
lock up fronts, but on gas still
clutch in
ebrake
downshift to 1st
clutch out
power out
haha
didnt think ofi t, just felt natural
i dont know if i locked up all 4s hahaha..
dorifto: you did much better in nicky's car. should have rode w/ you then, but i was pooopped. damn hot LV weather bleh. i assume TX will be just as bad :( i had to have drunk at least 7 of those bottle waters and 2 cherry cokes :( still felt dehydrated!
Ah... silly newbies.
If there isn't water coming out, there's not enough going in. If you want to do a track event in Texas during the summer, you've got to stay hydrated or you will pass out. I mean constantly-peeing hydrated. Your stomach feels full of water, and you need to pee, but your tongue is still puffy. Now imagine wearing 50lbs of leather at the same time. :eek3: It sounds like you guys had fun tho! :)
