Hello

I just got a 89 240 and had it primered.... when i was driving it home I noticed a bunch of problems with the electrical system, Im gonna have a look at it this weekend but I wanted to know if anyone out there experienced the same problems as I did and how did they fix them...

well heres the list...

1.Speedometer not working, (its the electronic one) and the HUD is also not working, everything else SEEMS ok.

2.When i start up the car i have to rev to about 3k rpms for the electronics to go on (ie: headlights gauge cluster etc...)

3.When I drive to about 3200 rpm's my parking brake light goes on even though the brake is down......

4.When i push the brake pedal down my reverse lights go on..(it doesent matter which gear is on..)

those are my problems, any help is greatly appreciated..

speedo
hud is notorious for not working. remove cluster and fix solders or just swap in a same gen (89-90 or 91-94) cluster AND subharness (harness that goes from cluster to main harness behind dash----very easy to do this job)

next..electrical is my guess. check everything you can.

check your brakes, but probably related to wiring again

rear lights, check the wiring. probaly got them mixed

that's my guesses and where i'd start!

The HUD not working is common. It's a problem with weak solder joints. You can replace the speedometer unit, have your existing one repaired, or convert to analog.

The rest sounds like a pretty wicked short somewhere in the main body harness. Good luck tracking it down...
