Please be easy on me folks. First time I have had a car of this age in a long time that I actually attempted to plug anything into. So if this sounds stupid, bear with me.

I have a 93 fast back. Since I got it I tryed to plug in my cell phone charger and it got extrmely hott and smoked a little and prob fried it.
I found this weird, but ok, maybe the charger was goofy.
So then at a later date, I tried to plug my nav into it for power on a trip and popped the fuse.

Now my question is, do the lighter adapters not work off a normal 12V in these things? Or reverse polarity or something?
Unless its a thing with being an old car and not designed for actual power? I dunno, but the lighter still works fine.

Any ideas?

Does it have an aftermarket radio in it? I bet someone wired the lighter backwards at some point.

Yea it does actually. i would hope it would be hard to screw that up to be honest with an aftermarket harness, but actually that sounds pretty logical. lol

i guess the lighter itself doesnt matter on polarity since its just a coil per say that gets charged and hot

Well, not the wiring of the radio. The monkey that removed the center console probably damaged the harness or connector for the lighter. Then crossed the wires when repairing.

i just popped the center panel out quick at lunch and saw that wire was "repaired" in a few places. lol
I guess thats prob where I can start. Find the source and pull out the lighter and maybe run a whole new wire.
