This is a strange request, but does anyone have any pics of of 205/50/15 tires on a stock wheel, or something comparable.

I am in the market for some summer tires for another set of stock wheels, and it seems that the good tires(Azenis, Kumho MX, etc.) only come in 205/50/15s. I'm not entirely sure I want to put up with the gearing change and speedo error associated with such a small tire on my daily driver.

205/50/15 looks TINYYYYY!
i wouldnt do it smalled would be 205
but if you want the car LOW (and adding more wheel gap) do it
otherwise, i'd stick w/ a 55 or 60 series tire...just mypreference

azenis are 205/50 and 195/60 so use 205/55 people are screwed :( i've complained to falken a few times about this! but..no luck

it won't look that bad. Seriously, the performance gain you'll get out of the previously mentioned tires will FAR out weigh any looks difference. Peronally 60 series sidewalls look way too tall on the 240 anyways. If I was going to keep my stock wheels I would definately run 205/50's...

Well, here is my list of possible tires:

Kumho ECSTA Supra 712

-$61 per 205/55VR15

The MXs and Azenis are obviously the better tires, but only come in 50 sidewall ratio, and I am not sure if it is worth it over the others for messed up speedo reading, really short gears, and tremendous wheel gap(I am at stock ride height).

My car is very stock, and I am looking for a summer/autoX tire. If you guys could help me out with this decision that would be good:) Right now I am leaning towards the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712.

I'd get the 205/55/15 712's.

While the 205/50's would be great auto-x tires, with great acceleration, but it would look small in the wheel wells, plus the smaller diameter would make for some high revs on the highway. If the car is lowered the loss in ride height could also cause problems (I have enough clearnace issues with a mild drop and stock sized tires).

I'd buy the ES100s or FM901s.

205/60 rules!

Matt,

Searching for tires already, I see. ;)

I've had a pair of 712 Kumhos on my old civic, not too bad, but not the stickiest in the world. For auto-x, most people I've talked to that have ran them say they are way too hard. I say go for the Azenis. If I had it to do over, I would have probably bought them instead of the A520 Yoko's I have.

My .02,

Ben

ps: Are you gonna make it down this weekend?

boro-thanks for the pic, that is exactly what i was looking for.

Since I have to drive over an hour and a half on the interstate to get to any autoX, smaller sidewalls would most likely kill my gas milage. Plus, Missouri (pronounced missery, not missurah dammit!) roads are none too kind to my car anyway, I think i will go for some 55 or 60 sidewalls.

Ben-Yep, already hunting for some good tires for your old wheels, I stripped them today and bought some nice paint, they should look good. I will try to make it to there this weekend, its Sat right? registration is at 9?

ok i have a similar question, so i guess i'll bring it up here instead of getting yelled at for making a new post about it...

i am also in the market for tires, the wheels i have are 15x6.5 +20 offset and i am just looking for some tires to beat up on (just 2 of em). should i get the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 in 205/55/15 ($61) or the uber-cheap Sumitomo HTR200 in 205/60/15 ($48)? i dont really care about looks, but performance is going to be sorta important since i want the tires to remain intact and be pretty strong while i am beating up on them, so a grippy tire is not that important, but something with structural integrity is key. so should i spend a little extra money to get the Kumhos with a thinner sidewall or should i get the bigger sidewall but much cheaper Sumitomos? if the performance is better overall from the Kumhos, i wouldnt mind spending a little extra dough, but if the Sumitomos are just as good i might as well get those instead....any suggestions?

rennen, not to be a dick but....

if it's another set of wheels, what do you care about the speedo and all of that other stuff? if these tires are only going to be used for the track, you can just change to your regular tires when events are over.

nissan slut - Thats a good question. My ideal situation would be to have tires I could run all summer, and tires I could run during the winter. This way I could save the tread on my all season tires, so that they would have enough tread depth to work well in the snow for many winters.

But nothing ever works out like you plan, so far this summer I have not made enough money to get new tires for my second set of wheels yet. Therefore I have put my Dunlop SP Sport A2 all seasons through 2 autocross events and they are already torn up:D

Id highly suggest against get 205/50/15. I got a deal on some Kumho 712's way back on my 89 SOHC. Since then I kept the wheels and put them on my 91. My car is lowered, but only by about 1.3" +/-. Thanks to that, my plastic undercarage has ripped off and I bottom out on things I never had before in my s14 that was about a half an inch off the ground with 235/40/18. My ride hight looks like stock in the rear with more gap then stock suspension and wheels would have been. If you like to give your car a Geo Metro look then by all means do it.

Here are some pictures of my 240 but you cant really see the wheels that good.

Here is a pic of rims and tires i got from a junkyard. They are 205/60R/15, some company i never heard of (Douglas Performance GT-H), got a pair of those, and a pair of some worn out Blizzaks in 205/60/15.

Don't mind the dirty wheel, the one on the right is in a process of bieng cleaned. The other one will be done sooner or later.
