where did you get 2 pounds of freon from? Last time I checked it is a controled substance.

he's talking about the r134a
R134a is not as cold as r12. I changed it out on my old car a while back, and it wasn't ever as cold as the r12. It would get colder with higher RPM's though. ;)
If I put too much in the system, the compressor wouldn't stay on. so we had to bleed off some. don't remember what the pressure was....
(sorry if this wasn't a bit of help.. :( )
so anyone know how much pound of freon that i need to refill ?
i don't want to overpresure it

Go to your local garage and ask them or if you know someone who works on A/C units for a living, ask them. Hope that helps.

You need a dual gauge to do it right - The high pressure side (after the compressor) should be ~250psi, and the low pressure side should read 30-35psi, per the FSM. But you can get away with the low side at 30-35psi if you only have a simple (single) gauge.
Did you vacuum the system out before filling? If not, there's your problem. You need to have ALL the air out the system before refilling.
Let us know... - Brian
well i did let all the presure out from the low side
and after that when i check the high side there is no pressure there anymore
so i just go ahead and refill it will the r134a from the low side
did i did anything wrong ?

Did you replce the dryer? You should change it when converting...
But sounds like there's air in the system...
If you just drained it, then you need to vacuum it down BEFORE refilling.
To do this you need a vacuum pump with the corret connections.
And I won't claim to be an expert, but I have done the A/C on an '89, re-installed the system on a 92, and re-charged my '96 after a hose got cut...And each time I just vacuumed it and refilled with 2 12oz cans of R134a and it worked perfectly.
Also - Is your compressor turning on? If not, you get no cold air.
Usually you have to jump it to get it to start, unless there is enough pressure to let it trip the clutch.
Good luck - Brian
actually this ac stuff is pretty new to me
can you please explain it in detail to me step by step ?
for the dryer where can i get a new one ? some online website ? which model i need ? and for the vacum where can i get one too ?
what is the connection i need ? do i vacum from the high side or low side ?
how do i jump a compressor ?
i am a totally newbie in this ac so a lot of help is needed
thanks a lot !!!!!!

In order to truly do a conversion you really need to flush the whole system to get rid of all the oil and R-12.
Vacuum pump to pull a vacuum is about $500 for a cheap one.
The filter drier can be had at any parts house.
To jump the compressor use a paper clip on the low pressure switch(connect the two wires). Personally I don't recommend this as you will be running the compressor with no charge and it is bad for the system. Most of the time you will not need to do this if you have done all the work correctly or if the switch is working properly.
To charge the system you will want to use about 80-88% of the original system charge.
Basically what you did was change a part of the freon, but not all(you didn't actually open the system up did you? You just drained all the R-12 out and then refilled it with R-134a) You cannot mix refrigerants like this. Not to mention that you probably over charged the system. This will also make the air blow hot. I would seriously recommend taking it to a mechanic and at least having the system evacuated and recharged. I don't think you'll ever get very good results doing it this way though.
hmmm
well since that this is going to be soooo complicated
i think i will go for a shop and do it right
but thanks for all the reply
:) :) :)
