I've been DJing dubstep for a few years now. Kind of evolved out of Grime for me. Dubstep nights always have the best atmosphere, and usually a well tempered mixed crowd. Went to a Benga night recently which was really good. Was meant to see Skream the other week but I had too much work on :(.

One of my favourite tracks atm:

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_mwL6R-Z1e4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_mwL6R-Z1e4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>~

Old now, but one of the filthiest things you'll ever listen to. Guaranteed to divide opinions:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KqdCZS8qUZY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KqdCZS8qUZY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Someone I went to school with is on Skream's label. His productions are more chilled, but still pretty good:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_NBpa2q2WxM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_NBpa2q2WxM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

This one was pretty huge on the scene a couple years back. Secured him a guest slot on Mary Anne Hobb's Radio One show.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LSO-FelCB9A&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LSO-FelCB9A&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

dubstep is an interesting concept...my first impression was that of boredom...me being a big fan of liquid dnb it just felt like something was missing. I will say that a lot of the newer stuff sounds really good; much more fleshed out in my opinion. This is a good thread I'm liking what's been posted so far.

we get it pretty good up here in Seattle for dubstep.

Joker was here Tuesday and we got Rusko playing for free coming up. All the UK heavyweights have thrown down here. We have had a tight d&b family up here, and the dubsteppers are even tighter. I like the traditional UK sound a bit more than the US sound, but i love it all.

Tune that made me fall in love with dubstep. Heard it on a Skream radio show a few yrs ago and it was over

YouTube - Skream - Tippa (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsx6nyAf7RY)

Pick up Caspa&Rusko Fabriclive 37 mix. Probably my favorite mix to date.

classic US mix by Trillbass

Trill Bass - Free World Steak And Shrimp: Free MP3 Download (http://beemp3.com/download.php?file=3108459&song=Free+World+Steak+and+Shrimp)

big mix by excision

and heres an SHIFT 2009 promo mix by my homie Travis

Shift Recordings. - LUKKI - Shift Recordings 2009 Promo Mix - SoundCloud (http://soundcloud.com/shift-recordings/lukki-shift-recordings-2009-promo-mix)

one more by Reid Speed. Good mix of electro and dubstep

I like the traditional UK sound

Did you ever listen to any Grime? It never really made it too far out of London, but there were/are some international fans. I was going to post a few tracks in here but decided against it in the end. The two are pretty closely related in my eyes.

Heres one of my favourite Skream mixes: CLICK (http://www.mediafire.com/?fmgujniwznz). Quite old now, but definitely a good tape.

Just because you don't like a genre of music, doesn't make it gay as shit. And Dubstep isn't particularly new. Fads usually gain and lose popularity in a lot shorter time than Dubstep has been around.

Not saying you're wrong, but were these UKG raves rather than Dubstep raves? IMO Dubstep as we know it only started coming about in 2003ish, and even then it was tiny. Before that time it was just darker remixes of 2 step tracks, and then the emergence of Grime (and I know both genres really struggled to make an impact anywhere outside the U.K.).

As far as I'm concerned the glory days of Dubstep are gone. Its becoming so generic. Theres still a few great producers out there though.

I feel like dubstep has gone way to far into hiphop territory. On top of that the dirty feel of the old tracks have all but jumped to DnB.

It just depends on the DJ I like some of the more hip hop/DnB type but it seems like a lot of it sounds super "house-ish" to me which makes me wanna stab myself in the ear with a sharp stick.

That last song for example just sounds like dirty house to me.

I feel like dubstep has gone way to far into hiphop territory. On top of that the dirty feel of the old tracks have all but jumped to DnB.

I like a few different types of dub step and drum and base. I can get down with the poppy/trancy stuff and the super grimey dirty shit.

I posted this in the DnB thread before this thread was made/revived.

I REALLY like the classic dub based dubstep, that is probably my favorite:
s2ZCk59-R10

^Smash Gordon played that at the Rusco concert a few weeks ago. The deep bass in that long is amazing.

I don't think any other OG dubstep guy out there gets as grimy as Caspa. I really wish he was touring with Rusco, that would have made it even more epic.

It just depends on the DJ I like some of the more hip hop/DnB type but it seems like a lot of it sounds super "house-ish" to me which makes me wanna stab myself in the ear with a sharp stick.

That last song for example just sounds like dirty house to me.

That track is all DnB. It starts out liquid DnB and then goes dub.

you just have to find the type you like. ie: I love the dark, scary, I am gonna eat kittens for breakfast type od DnB and DUBstep :) the darker the better.

others like atmospheric dubstep, trance, I like

I like really filthy dub, and the majority of what I listen to borders more on "rapstep" than anything. Tons of synth and super deep bass and long basslines are the way to go IMO, Like Mimosa, Rusko, and Chrispy for example

Heres a new guy I just found on New Dubstep Music (http://www.newdubstep.com/) They have a lot of good newer music from across the country so its definitely a good place to bookmark and check every once in a while when you want something new.
Butch clancy Dubstep - Tracks - SoundCloud (http://soundcloud.com/butchclancy)
I like the way his intros lead up the ridiculous drops, and his breaks are usually pretty on point. His songs are pretty filthy from beggining to end and not very many Djs try to pull of mixing that many genres (Neckbreakers anthem for example). This is pretty much the only style of dubstep I can stand. Too housey, trancey or anything like that and I am immediately turned off.

Here is a small 4 song EP DL from him with the Rihanna and a Sean kingston remix on it.
Butch Clancy Diary Of A Stateside Steppa zip (http://www.speedyshare.com/files/24169731/Butch_Clancy_-_Diary_Of_A_Stateside_Steppa.zip)

You see, the fusion of Hiphop and Dubstep is exactly what I don't like about a lot of new dubstep. Snoop Dogg Millionaire was a dark dark day for dubstep, shame on Chase and Status for that one. I love the British sound of Dubstep, and a lot of the American produced HH influeced Dubstep just doesn't sound right to me. Slightly cheap/generic maybe? Its as if urban music has to be associated with someone rapping (badly) over the top. Thats not to say there's not very talented US producers, Diplo's remix of Starstruck is absolutely on point, and his remix of Four Floors is one of my favourite dubstep tracks ever. And there's a hell of a lot of guilty UK producers taking the easy/obvious way out of making generic dubstep for the masses. Like Pendulum, Rusko doesn't get much love over here anymore for being far too formulaic. If he changed it up and evolved his music with the fans, he'd probably still be on top!

This is the kind of stuff I'm complaining about:

fJA-pmDtgvA

So predictable - generic dubstep with bad west coast emcee over the top.

Then theres the guys actually taking a risk and producing some really interesting music (I know these are on more of a chillout tip, but they're the quickest examples to hand):

tQoQirZwxE4

9qiqGhbeagY

nHe5NwYY4Sg

oOT2-OTebx0

The last track is a bit cross-genre, but the chorus bassline and beat formation allow it to slip into a dubstep set quite nicely. Compare it to the Rass Kass track I posted :squint:

Although that stuff you posted was super chill its by far closer to dubstep than that rass kass bullshit ou posted as an example. First of all I dont like rass kass's regular music. and the fact that he sunk low enough to even try and attempt biting on such a recognizable genre as dubstep makes melike him even less. I honestly wouldnt call that "background music" any kind of anything, lol. Its not HH or dubstep. Its just plain crap.
The examples I posted are the closest i like my dubstep to come to rap basically remixed rap songs with dirty synth and a lot of bass. But whne i just want something to listen to and kick back i like some of the slower smoother stuff.

Apart from Hardhouse (lol), all the above genres are doing well in this part of the world? Its only the fickle masses and moderate-music-fans that latch on to a semi-underground genre, bringing it to the mainstream, before getting bored and moving on. (Usually because the genre has been flooded by watered down commerically viable tracks during its brief stay in the charts).

The Excision and Datsik tracks just sound like soulless wobbly brostep to me :naw:

Im hoping people silence dubstep because its retarded.
I love dnb but I always have had a passion for progressive trance. Mat zo, myle and shane54, pulsedrive, andy moor, john 00 flemming, above and beyond, artic moon, cold blue. Eddie halliwell I liked and matt darey but they went soft after their popularity.

I'm glad you like them :). Dubstep has more to do with beat structure, minimalism and tempo than wobbly fruity-loops bass. Unfortunately most of the dubstep that gets noticed is the stuff made by new producers that have jumped on the bandwagon (I hate the word bandwagon, but it best describes what's happening to the genre).

Don't get me wrong, bass absolutely has its place in dubstep. You'll notice a pretty deep drop in the first track I posted at 1:50. Its just the formulaic wobbly crap that takes about 5 minutes to produce, that has divided the scene. The new kids on the block like the "heavy" stuff. The original producers got bored of all the shit a long time ago. Dubstep can be incredibly dark without all the wub wub nonsense.

Poncy speakers won't do these ones justice

wc6ZqhJWRhE

Speaking of the original producers, Skream was signed to Big Apple Records 10 years ago now when he was only 15.

Magnetic man is Skream, Benga and Artwork. The originals! That track is more dubstep than 95% of the crap in this thread.

Some tracks that fall in the middle between UKG and dubstep:

Burial's Untrue album literally changed the game in '07. If you claim to be a dubstep fan and haven't listened to this album, do yourself a favour and buy it:

This is the original:

any of you producer-ass dj bros want to make a dubstep track for me? in exchange i will make you a personal art. pm me if you'd like to see an example of my internet art. nsfl. it's kind of a cell-shaded amateur porn meets tracing.
anyway i call dibs on a song starting out as the south park intro chopped and screwed, but only up to "i'm going down" and the drop is on "down". and it's all BWAHHHHHH WUBWUB AYAYAYAYAYAY WUBBBBB

tell me that isn't beautiful.

Because that shit is already in here like 50 times.

Not directed at you.....
But WTF people? whats the point in joining a forum if your not gonna read the threads? they are therr for you to READ. Not for you to just post your unrelated opinion on the 70th page. Get with the fucking program already. /rant

Awesome.

i really want that made. almost enough to learn how to do it myself. somebody do it plz

also my dubstep song would have samples of random roommates/neighbors pounding on walls and yelling about what time it is. "I HAVE TO WORK IN SIX HOURS" "SHUT UP MY WIFE IS PREGNANT" "IT'S CHRISTMAS EVE" etc

chopped and screwed all mush mouth sounding, just up to 9 seconds in "i'm going down WUUUUuBBB AYAYAYAYAY BWEEE WUBWUBWUB etc" and also like, hold the bass note on the drop, stretch it out retardedly long, and in the middle of that have some guy beating on thin drywall yelling shut up i have a test in the morning or something like that. and then it goes back to the south park theme, i don't know, that'd be great to me. awe yeeeee

Dubstep = a bunch of Transformer noises to Drum and Bass. The end.

you don't necessarily have the best grasp on either renditions of the genre do you? dnb has anywhere from 175 to 190 beats per minute where as dubstep is more like 130 to 150... here is the catch to dubstep though, it is produced in whats called half step where it makes it sound like 80 even slower. im sorry but your statement is sooo wrong. but opinions are what makes the world go round and facts are what keep it spinning lets not get them twisted.

I'm stoked I found this thread. I became obsessed with dupstep and reggae/dubstep about a year ago but its super hit or miss now and I barely ever find tracks I can get into. I think this kid and especially this track kills it though
YouTube - Chrispy - Open (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwrAVfZ_etI)

Most of the new stuff I found just doesn't sound BIG enough and I hate waiting half of a track for the bass to drop. Idk. Theres for sure some good stuff here though.

k First time posting a vid too, sorry. Heres a link to the track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwrAVfZ_etI
