View Full Version : Illinois to Colorado...

If you ever wondered if the SR could make a road trip like that (1000 miles), it was a piece of cake. I would have liked cruise control, but that's OK. Averaged about 26 mpg for the whole trip too (and about 65 mph...which is HARD to do actually).

Only interesting points:

The SR water pump spins too fast. At 3500-4000 rpm (75-85 mph), it's circulating the water so fast, it doesn't have time to cool much (even in my big Koyo radiator). The SECOND you slow to about 60-65, it goes right back down. HOWEVER, I removed the weather stripping from where the firewall meets the hood...temp went down more than 5 degrees!!

Also, I learned that it's not good to "serpentine" between 18-wheelers. I was informed of this while in the front seat of a Missouri State Trooper's cruiser  Oops. He clocked me at 92, but didn't get a lock. So I got a warning!!!:D  Phew! He was actually very nice about it. I've had back luck with cops lately...but no tickets oddly enough. Just warnings.

So, for all of you Colorado peeps (Mark and Irena, this means YOU). I'm here for a few days down in Highlands Ranch. We should meet up. PM me for phone number.

Nobody has anything interesting to say about my post? Nothing? Not even "Geez, that was lucky with the cop" or "Maybe you should try and design/make a smaller water pump pulley" or "Why the fu(k are you posting this?"

:( :p

Oh, and let me add something. My car is SLOW up here. I haven't driven it in Colorado (6000 ft) since the SR got put in. Being at or around sea level is a blessing. I don't care what you drive...thin air is bad for power. It's *better* on boost, but off boost, it's one laggy sonuvabitch. I don't like it. :o

"AWW, nobody wants to play with me".. hehe.

Congrats on making it out here. There really is not too much in the form of motoring fun here in Denver though, unless you go to Bandimere or something. Mountains are always fun, lots of windy roads around here.

HAHA yea, 6k ft elevation sucks. Only 82% air pressure, and therefore 82% oxygen content and 82% of your sea level power up here!

Three words: Deer Creek Canyon. You betcha. I'm on it.

Wanna hear a sad story? I just had some dude in a V8 Grand Cherokee roll up at a stoplight and he decided he wanted to race. I gave him a lead while I was getting the revs and boost up (and spinning my tires)...I almost lost. Took me to the top of 2nd to catch his a$$ and pass him. That doesn't happen with "normal power". I tell ya, I forgot how much it sucked to drive up here.

Damn SUVs are everywhere around here. I see 500 jeeps for every 240 I see, honestly. BTW, just raise your boost some while you're up here, it'll balance back out...

SUVs suck ballz.

I don't have a boost controller. Thinking of building one at Ace just because this sucks too much. I could do it on Friday...but what's the point...I'm leaving on Sunday night....

How did you get in a Missouri State Trooper's front seat? He pulled you over and said "come, sit down, let's chat"? hehe

edit: this thread is really raising my post count fast! :D :D

He told me what I had done, asked me for license and insurance, then proceeded to ask me "Would you please step out of the vehicle and follow me to the cruiser?"

My jaw dropped. I thought he was going to arrest me or some ****. I said, "Can I ask why?"

He said, "Oh, I just don't like standing here at the side of the freeway...it's very dangerous."

I said, "Oh, that makes sense" and got out of the car.

Damn, those front seats are like La-Z-Boys dude...sooooo comfy.

Nothing but the best for our law enforcement! Hehe, did he have a donut dispenser like in Wayne's World the AMC had a licorice dispenser on the dash? jk I love cops... :D

w00t, now i have another "ghetto mod" to do: remove the weather stripping to vent the heat out of the engine compartment :) beats taking a dremel and some fiberglass kit to the hood :D

what area were you in when ya go pulled over in MO?

most times the cops are pretty cool around here, except for ballwin cops, they have monthly quotas they have to meet, so at the end of the month we always have to watch how we drive in ballwin, which sucks b/c there are some fine slightly hilly/curvy roads there...

Yeah, removing the weather stripping took all of 10 seconds at the gas station. Easy. I heard about someone else doing that and thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm not sure where I was when I got pulled over. Sorry. Somewhere along I-70 between St. Louis and Kansas City ;) hehehe.

So, Mark, where's that PM brah? I'll send you one....

haha my SR makes frequent trips to GA (about 5 hours from here to Atl) rides around atl all weekend and back home and never once had a problem. even with my crappy stock KA radiator. (well once when my electric fan was being funny about turning on and i got stuck in a traffic jam it kinda scared me but nothing happened.)

cop front seats are pretty comfy.. they are in them for like 8 hours they better be,.. the rears are another story. too cramped no leg room especially with your hands behind your back..

back seat, huh? what happened? :D

i wouldn't trust that stock KA radiator. every time i would make a 75-90 pull with that thing i could just WATCH the gauge climb with the revs. it was lame. the KOYO is nice. i still think the water pump spins too fast, though. it stays at 180 until i raise the speed to 3750 rpm or more...

yeah my eyes are gonna be perpetually on that gauge too, since i'm having to stick with stock KA rad and stock fans...

... and i say we CNC-machine some under-drive waterpump pulleys for the SR's water pump :D
