In basic terms, if you like to drift and are on a really tight budget, a welded diff is good to have. But it will suck if you try and grip the canyons or any grip tracks, also in the rain it's very predictable but slidey. It's fun :)

just got my diff welded 2 weeks ago and i love it, it's really not that bad, it just chirps when your pulling into a parking spot or going slow around turns. my car still grips fine around the turns and i love knowing when my car is gonna break lose.

Just put my welded diff in on monday. As of now the only cons I know of are chirping and depending on welder/welds, the longevity.

In my opinion, you should go out and buy an lsd. Sure it is a bit more expensive now, but all money you save in tires will pay it off. Plus, i just like the way driving my lsd feels compared to a welded diff. Its more comfortable on the street and you still get your wheels to lock when you want them to.

Came with my car, but when i looked it up it was like 800 bucks. Its a nismo 2 way. if your considering buying one here is a link from a quick Google search:
Nismo 2-way "Street" LSD (http://www.dm-spec.com/ni2slsd.html)
There are better ones out there, but for street use i think this one is pretty damn good.

No prob man. Honestly, if i didnt buy my car with an lsd i would have welded it too. Just thinking that if you had the money that is a more comfortable option.

Bardabe welded my diff this fri and the ONLY thing that i would consider a 'con' is that i squeal around turns. Ive heard that cheap tires is the reason for this. lol i tried braking my diff all day friday and got nothing lol

I hated my welded diff and gave it away. I got a J30 VLSD at the junk yard for 40 bucks and replaced the fluid.

I couldn't suggest any for drifting since I don't drift. But If you want a viscous LSD from the junk yard J30 diffs are straight bolt on if it is a '95 or newer (the older ones have 5 bolt stubs which would need to be changed to go into your car). Also I think the Z32 diffs will bolt on, but I think you just need to swap out the rear covers. If you are really thinking about doing this I would highly suggest researching because I know for sure that there are a few good threads about it somewhere on these forums.

Welded diff sucks, When you get a j30, get the 6 bolt and you have to get the abs driveshaft from a 240sx, It is a little bit shorter. The j30 diff is a little bit longer than your stock and the abs driveshaft will compensate for the length of the diff. Driving impression is alot better, than a welded diff. The 2 wheels spin simultaneousely so don't think you can try autocrossing or going hard into a corner...you will end up dead or even worse you car could be totaled.
J30 diffs aren't for everyone especially a stock ka...its perfect for boosted cars. You see the difference in the rpm, its smoother and less strained....meaning your car doesn't race the fuck out at 80 mph.
300zx are just like j30's exept they only come in 5 bolt, and you would need the 6 bolt output shafts or change both axles.
