I posted this in the other thread too, but you should make some that offset the steering rack as far forward as possible, as this helps eliminate some of the overcentering that occurs when using modified knuckles.

i put in some energy suspension steering rack bushings but i honestly question whether or not i'll be able to feel the difference once spring rolls around.
anyone notice anything after replacing the steering rack bushings ?

I too am interested. I also installed the energy suspension bushing, but had to shim them with part of the used oem set, as i felt the rack was still sloppy. Plus i could see the gap through the round bushing.

You'll notice a little more firmness depending on condition of the OE bushings. Most S13s I've seen they're well worn, so you'll like the change.

I paid over 100$ from Yanack for these.... they are a nice upgrade. Never going to rubber/poly crap. It's not harsh or anything like that either, in fact feels less harsh or its in my mind. Also got the solid steering column bushing (s13)

Here is one thing that I can't stress enough with about 6k miles on my yanack solid bushings....
If possible put or supply a layer of tacky rubber or some nice rubber to fill gaps that happen to be there. This will help reduce rack shifting under lateral pressure from turning the tires and outside pressure from tires gripping the road. No matter how tight you get it or how in spec, not all racks are the exact mold, so if you can supply some rubber inserts to help fill any gaps, I think it would make this way better than Yanacks....
I filled in my gaps with 1/8' - 1/16' rubber from silicon hoses as they can grip on metal or aluminum really well...
Just my opinion.

^^^ YUP!!! Took me FOREVER to figure wtf was wrong with my steering.... When you put it on a lift or jacks have someone rotate the steering wheel quickly, while both wheels are in the air.... there HAS to be 0 movement. It won't do it at when parked or at low speeds...
@Agency - Then you guys HAVE to advertise that... Its a big deal cause my Yanacks didn't have that and it SUCKED royally!... You guys rock and at 80 bux... geezus... I'd sell my yanacks and get these....

i don't know if this makes sense to you all; however, with very limited mechanical knowledge, I had rebuilt a s13 hicas steering rack on my s14. I noticed that the entire thing is made out of aluminum. The two steering rack bushings one clamps on one side on the steering rack housing which is pretty sturdy, but another side is on the thin aluminum cyliner/cone. I don't know about you guys, but it seems pretty weak to me even the FSM warns us about it.
I believe the rubber bushings are designed the way that it is to absorb whatever the impact transfer from the wheel, to the tie rod and lastly to the steering rod. I'm not sure how much gain you would have on solid bushing vs nismo rubber bushing, but if the impact is hard enough, it would crack the aluminum cylinder/cone which ultimately cause leaking and worse...?
just my .2 cent
I hope the OP could explain more about this.

I agree it could, but that is why I think there will be a small amount of rubber to help with shock absorption, but still I have yet to see something crack the rack because it will more likely damage the tie rod before the rack.....

i also see your point. i also think the pressurized fluid make these puppies fine. just like crushing a empty cardboard box vs. crushing a cardboard box overfilled with paper and taped shut.
i think these would help with the slop in the steering. i want a set. see what happens

my yanack one warped
definitely sticking w/ the regular rubber ones myself again. cheape rand does the job
if you go solid, still need some rubber around it to make up for any gaps and shit
i wont go solid again
and i only track my car. ill stick w/ rubber.

mine did too
and i used them
and they still warped
i had mine for a good 2 years tracked regularly.
one event it was all sloppy feeling (it was a tad sloppy but i thought it might have been alignment)
friend noted the rack is moving all over
the pasenger side one was super loose. wrapped it in duct tape to finish the event
and replaced them w/ ES ones the following weekend.

I was going to ask the same thing, but didn't know if it was answered in a previous thread.
To me, the rack should be suspended in some sort of rubber, just to prevent issues from impact. Gotta think, if you have decent tie rod ends, there is a TON of shock sent into the rack. I'd think I want that area somewhat 'insulated' from the vibrations of roads/tracks/nonsense.
Again, I have Nismo/ES bushings and love them. Super easy to put in, and perfect. No movement, really nice. No sure the advantage solid would give me over these.

Hey Dousan, my rack shifted with the Nismo bushings and metail ones. I had to shim it up with heater whose rubber and really clamp it down... Any tips on this?

I have yanack ones, after i hit a curb at 10 MPH one of my tie rods was super long and the other one was really short after i tried lining everything up, might be those bushings.

i dont either... :eek3:

im thinking the same thing...if stiffness is wat its all about, fuck it, ill get rid of my coilovers now, and just weld a steel tube instead of a shock...and ill be able to slam the car just by cutting the tube...
someone ^ R&D that please :keke:
i think Dousan_PG got a point in the sense that due to the impacts his solid mounts suffered, they warped...
now some could say make em (the mounts) out of stronger material... problem with that is...it might not be the mounts that warp...it could be ur steering rack that takes a shit on you...
mind you not a lot people have the common sense to just track there car that overly built...
