View Full Version : Who daily's bucket seats?

My seats are beat, hopefully if i score some christmas money i'd like to upgrade. I'm interested in getting a bucket seat, but i hear they're not comfortable to daily in. So i wanted to ask people in the 240 scene, should i go reclinable or solid frp seats? My car won't be seeing the track anytime soon, so its more of a comfort upgrade rather than trying to hold me tight. I also want my girlfriend and anyone who rides in my car to be comfortable also. I already have 4 point harnesses and the nrg harness bar for my stock seats now, i won't have enough money for super expensive seats though. Might pick up a pair of those group buy seats on here. What brackets do you guys use, or are they welded? thanks in advance for the help

Almost every single car on this site, has bucket seats.
Unless some dumbass decided to swap in a bench seat from a 1950's American passenger car.

i daily drove my car with one for a while. it was alright. getting in and out is a little hard without a qr steering wheel, but other than that, it was fine. just make sure the seat is large enough. i have really broad shoulders and the seat back kinda forces me to lean forward. go to a shop and test fit it first.
i use the nagisa/nams (sp) low rails. they work perfect.

to the OP, if you must question it, then id suggest not getting one and going with S14 seats til you seriously got a purpose for a aftermarket seat in a street car.

Lol, point taken.
I was mainly wondering if they're comfortable for dd.

I think that's what i'll do, i really wanna test the ones from the group buy thread in person. I also have the NRG slim release, didn't think of the wheel getting in the way, but good to know. thanks for the heads up!

Don't get me wrong, i would like to be held in nicely when cornering. Even daily driving, i was just wondering if solid bucket seats are less comfortable than reclinable ones. thanks for the info though, i've also debated on s14 seats

ok who dailys bride buckets.
for some reason all the pictures i see of bride seats in peoples cars the foam padding is REALLY flat. (i.e. it looks like they wear out very easily)
is that common?

kinda meaningless to ask a question of comfort imo.
what applies to one person might not for another.
to answer your question though, I've dd in a non-reclinable Spaco Rev & Evo.
Had it with a 5-point harness in a crx.
Also have reclinable Recaro SRS (or whatever that budget model's called) on my S14.
They're just fine imo.
The 5-pt harness is a pain, because it bolts you in your seat so deep that you can't reach far from your seat (i.e. - open the glovebox).
The seats are fine to me even for long distance driving.
I think fatigue would be caused by an uncomfy driving position most of all.
getting a seat that's too small for you doesn't help either.
I wouldn't get one of those Kirley metal non-reclinables for a dd.
there's no not a damn cushion on that.

I daily'd my S13 and my S14 with the same Momo bucket. It was the most comfortable seat I've sat in, sadly the tears got to be too much (getting in and out over and over rubbed the side bolster) and now I got a pair of JXN's GS-style seats that I have to go pick up one of these days.
Sit in a bunch of seats, find one that you like, and then find a slider/mount setup that puts you where you want to be. It'll feel nice, and hold you better when you drive aggressively.

i daily my Bride zeta 3..its not so bad, but then again i am in love with me seat. I baby the hell out of it when i get in and out. You will develope a routine on getting out and in. I lift up and then over. As far as comfort, its actually not bad at all.

Thanks for all the quick replies, i guess it all comes down to test fitting the seats in person. And that's what i'll do eventually, thanks for your opinions!

I DD in a Bride Low Max knockoff. Its soooo much better than stock S13 seats. But on 4 hour drives it fucking destroys my back.
I used Nams Super Low rails too. Legit.

i daily drove my 180 with a bucket last year. it was okay, but if i were to do it again, i'd get bride recliners. especially if you don't hit the track that often.

I have a Recaro SPG and it is absolutely fucking awesome. Leg bolsters are perfect. I daily drove with a Bride Zeta III and it was uncomfy for long drives. The leg bolsters are too high so you can't move your legs (And you can't adjust your balls either due to the lack of room for leg movement)
The only thing comparable to it are R32/R33 GT-R Seats. I would start with those and see how you like them.

So no track days in the near future..?? I'd just go with an S14 seat. They are very very comfortable and actually hold you in surprisingly well for stock.

If you plan to go OEM, R34 GT-R Seats > R32/R33 GT-R Seats > S14/180sx Seats.
get s14, s15, or R32/R33 GT-R seats

You could just get a used seat.
I got my used Recaro for around $350.
I prefer a used name brand seat over a knockoff.
The materials and build are usually better.
I have some used Sparco Evos for close to your budget, if you're interested.

Why do you go there? Well the best thing you can do on a budget is to check the zilvia marketplace everyday. You can usually find really good deals on parts just make sure you dont low ball. Second would be to have fellow S-chassis friends, they can sometimes give you deals on parts as well.

Oh man dailying a bucket seat can be a pain, I never did it but all of my friends do. Everytime I enter their drivers seat I'm scared I will rip the side of the bucket so I try so hard to not swipe the sides of the bucket seats as I get in.
Personally I would do it just because it makes me feel good sitting in a bucket seat anytime. Yeah there are a lot of low profile stock type bucket seats that hold you well. The recaros that come in the evos are pretty good for daily driving and still look good.

getting aftermarket bucket seats to daily drive you car imo is like overdoing it. There is nothing wrong with the seats it comes with. I have a 1989 240sx driver seat in my car. I actually like it way better than a bride brix seat (replica) which I removed (since it came with my car.)

Thanks for the honest opinion, i really just need some new seats. As because my stock ones now the bolsters are gone so if during any cornering i have a metal bar going into my kidneys. as far as buying a bucket for a daily, i figured if im getting seats. might as well get some nice looking buckets to be baller with. but i do like the idea of doing s14 or r32 seats. how much do these run?

^^
This
Also, just be careful getting in and out of them. Generally, wear appears on side bolsters first, so try to be cognizant of this and avoid it.
I wore a Recaro SPG to shit back by treating it like any other OEM seat, which you can't really do if you want to keep it looking nice.

Don't want to have a seat and not use it because you can't afford $200 on a rail.

same here. Stock s13 seats are the worse
I dailyed a momo t-fram, sparco sprint, some cheap crap reclineables and a cobeau forza II all of which are cheap relatively speaking. Do your self a favor find some s14 seats or the like. All name brand ones have your lower back aching and your legs then go kinda numb, great for the track not for the streets. The cheap ones, well lets not talk about it

i daily'd this seat for a long time, year or two. in that s13 and my old fc.
ebay what seems to be thrash/panda knockoff. took a lot of fiddling to get it to sit just right in regards to headroom and legroom.
i thought it was comfy as all hell. preferred it to stock seats by far.
people thought it was funny watching me climb out, but after the first five times you get a routine going and it becomes second nature like locking your car once you get out. you just do it without thinking.
stock fc seats are nice but s13 seats didnt agree with my back every once in a while.
