Fuel Filter

How do you know when its time for your fuel filter to go??? Are their any major signs or what nots???

slight bogging, stalling at occasions, slight gas mileage loss..
other than that the way to test it (and other mechanics do it)
is pull off the fule filter and blow through it from the top, if its pretty hard to blow through it (because it should be fairly easy) then its time to change it...
if yah gotta change it, then just buy one from a 300zx from ragen or summin they are only like 2 bux more...

I already brought a stock 240sx one should i go return it and get a 300zx one?

you might as well return it if they'll let you. I've been using a 300zx tt fuel filter for the last 10,000mi and i've noticed a small difference. it flows better at the top end

It escapes me where I read it, but I swear I read someplace that using the 300zx filter for SR's is very recommended. Fuel filters are really cheap, you might as well go with what's recommended.

Pull your fuel pump fuse beforehand and make an effort to drain the filter by running the car till it dies and cranking it over for about 15 revolutions. Have a rag handy to collect the gas that drains out, and disconnect your negative battery terminal to prevent possible ignition.

Here's my approach to preventive maintenence:
If I think something is in need of replacement and that item is relatively cheap, like 9 bucks for a 300ZX TT fuel filter, go for it. There is not a lot of effort involved in changing it and in my case, there was no fuel spillage without draining anything, guess I was lucky though.

all the fuel filter does is filter the fuel from any deposits os crud like that... so the answer is no it will not cause the engine to run rich...

Well if all the filter does is filter the fuel then where is the advantage to using a 300ZX one opposed to a 240SX?

Generally, the 300ZX filter is larger, meaning it lasts longer because of more fitler surface area, and it's cheaper than the 240SX fuel filter.

And it also allows for more fuel flow, for those who have dreams of forced induction, that is a good thing. If you aren't going for forced induction, the fact that the Z filter is like 2 bucks cheaper and doesn't hurt anything is good enough a reason.
