Maybe when he has that mad tyte angle he blades across the wall to save his bumper? Lol
hell if I know, but it's pretty dumb.

11-22-2009, 12:07 AM
i may be so that the bumper "rolls" on the wall/ jersey barrier instead of the bumper getting ripped off. kinda makes sense in a stupid way.
I don't like it

Thats what i was thinkin I just thought i would share this with Zilvians. I do have to give him props for a good idea just not very usefull imho...

not really useful at all, also if your exhaust sticks out farther than the bumper.
(look closely at the pic)
dosent really matter tho.
if your gonna hit, your gonna hit.

11-22-2009, 12:24 AM
thats just fucking pure awesome. it clearly doesn't serve any real purpose but its there for when he gets that bitch sideways and scrapes the wall.. i guess if he does it perfectly.. the wheels just ride on the wall lol.

a reaction is a reaction
if you hit the wall at some angle, the force will be directly translated to your bumper.
roller blade wheels will not magically turn the translational force into a rotational one, and propel you away from the wall. that is just asinine.
if it does ANYTHING, and I mean the slightest bit, is that the rubber in the wheels can absorb some of the shock impact from the wall. but realistically, unless you're hitting it at 1 km/hr, it wouldn't do shit

If a drift car scrapes a wall and no one captures it on camera, does it make a noise?

I think theyre just there to be funny...you really think roller blades will absorb anything when you slam into the wall doing 80mph? Only thing itll be good for is if you "lightly" kiss the wall.

I woulda put something that would throw a lot of sparks when you hit the concrete.
g-via
11-22-2009, 02:06 AM
after thinking about this some more...
since the angle of impact on the bumper is usually very steep, and the relative motion...
it will probably save some bumpers from being ripped off, since the friction against the two surfaces is greatly reduced.
putting something that would create sparks would be a lot more friction (ie to cause sparks), and your bumper would be ripped off indefinetly lol

Like a big chunk of magnesium, or a roller blade wheel sized spark wheel thing from a lighter.

A nice plate of Ti would be quite fun as well... Bright white sparks... purrrrrdy

Just replace the bumper with a giant piece of Ti and watch the sparks fly! Like somebody else said, I can't honestly see the wheels doing much of ANYTHING. For one I am kinda curious has to HOW the wheels are attached. Are they attached to the chassis? I see this causing more harm than anything else

You know who should really look into making bumpers for drifters?
These guys:
http://www.nerf.co.nz/images/nerf_logo.jpg
And for the guys who refuse to pay for the quality manufacturer, just go to Wal-Mart and buy the knock-off "pool noodles" and make bumpers out of them.
http://www.porchandparlour.com/Stedmans/Originals/PoolNoodle_CT.jpg
They even come in flashy "Dorifto colors!"

I dont think this would actually work worth a damn.
where is the force of impact being redistributed to?
There are no shocks to absorb it.
Any real impact will instantly crush the blades and their support, and then rip the bumper off.
Side note.
Zipties arent to be a mad tyte drift yo.
they are to be able to put the pieces back together quikly and to have them come off once some pressure is applied.
Looks like his bumper is still hardmounted, so it will stay on a little longer on the wall, but that bumper support is going to do alot more damage to the rear of that car with that pressure.
and his bumper is going to get ripped to shit instead of popping off if to much pressure gets applied.
I run no bumper support so that the bumper can just pop off if i get a couple inches to deep. Those bumper supports can catch the wall and pull you straight into it.
just my 2cents.

I used to be a blader and i know some aggresive blades can withstand impossible situations like a 400 pound guy falling from a 20 story building onto a rail or onto the straight ground but even so these wheels are literally "ROLLERBLADE" speed wheels which are gay as fuck

This was the first car to have wheels in the bumper, and I'm pretty sure the only reason they're there is to gain publicity through people saying 'wtf' on forums, and posting pics of the car. Its actually a pretty clever idea on that front.
It seems 'how low can you go' guy has seen them and thinks they actually have a practical application
Bubbles
11-22-2009, 09:20 PM
It could actually work if the rollerblade wheels hit and their friction overpowered the car's tires.
However, that would never happen.
Car tires on the bumper and rollerblade wheels on the car.
Problem solved.

So some tool happens to have a lot more money to spend on his car then most everyone on this site, good for him. Difference between him and the others is they're doing what they can with what they've got. He doesn't seem to need to worry about that. :2c:

i see most of you fail at common sense, AND SEARCHING.
yes, the op and some others got it right, its meant to curb total destruction on bumpers when hitting a wall. Im pretty sure, structurally, its made to withstand the impact. they are not just screwed directly into the bumper. There is a "frame" behind the bumper.
i swear you 240 guys are dumb as hell sometimes, not to mention sheepole.
BC S14
02-09-2011, 03:09 AM
I was thinking the same thing, It must have some sort of support. If the wheels were strong enough and the contraption were connected to the frame and other strong points of the chassis, It might be a very good idea. Looks like crap, but hey, I think getting a perfectly good and rare car close to a wall on purpose is also retarded. But that's an uphill stream on this site.

a set of roller blade wheels are not gonna stop or deflect the force of 2000lbs moving at 40 plus mph.
Sorry, shit is just not rated for that.
Its a fucking fairly tale if you think that shits gonna work.
And your shoveling shit around here if you try and tell people it works.
A bumper support or bash bar will deflect force better, and at that kind of pressure, you will not feel or see a difference in the wheels rolling or the lack of grip potential in metal on cement.
But please, put blades on your bumper, so we can recognize the kooks where ever we go :)

Clearly i do not. Why even comment. Its obvious i cant spell, since i spelled shit wrong. :cj:
so, what if you welded up a sturdy frame to hold some high density rubber or poly wheels that could take the force.. maybe work in a damper..
use some like 7x4 inch wheels...
lol nevermind, carry on.
fyneyoungstunna
02-09-2011, 11:37 AM
hmmm.
280lb rider, falling...lets be conservative and say 15ft, and the wheels hold up plenty solid for that direct impact......
Now implement an even more efficient dampner system into an object that wont even take the force DIRECTLY(cause you know..this isnt made to take impact, its made to DEFLECT/ABSORB force.) But hey, your an engineer..what do i know?

^bwhahahahahaha THIS!
the first car that I saw that had roller blades mounted in the bumper also had it linked to coilovers so that it absorbed the energy and and push back so he could just keep sliding on a straight line against a wall, or something like that. mounting roller wheels for no reason is rather superfluous

I was thinking, why not mount some skateboard trucks on the back so you can hit some sweet grinds off the wall. But then I remembered, they made a skateboard car already.

So we put some blades in your bumper,
So you can slide while you slide.

I'm just more impressed with people that don't need training wheels when they ride the wall.

I think getting a perfectly good and rare car close to a wall on purpose is also retarded. But that's an uphill stream on this site.
I had no idea that 240s were rare. Here are the production numbers.
1989 - 68118
1990 - 60582
1991 - 34534
1992 - 27033
1993 - 21471
1994 - 1391
1995 - 25114
1996 - 7334
1997 - 3655
1998 - 1232 Total cars produced from 1989 to 1998: 251410
And aside from that, if they haven't already, a lot of people on here will turn perfectly good cars into complete pieces of shit that should be run into a wall anyway.
