This worry is stopping me on my hunt for a cage at the moment so im need of some guidance chaps and chapesses !

Id like a bolt in roll cage (6 point I think) but I want to keep my interior and it to be stockish / neat http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Ive been looking at dash dodgers for this reason but seems a bit ponintless in some ways and im worried it will greatly limit the space for getting in and out esp with passengers. However ive never actually seen or got in a car with a dodger.

A friend of mine has a fabricage one from a few years ago and ended up cutting his headlining out, cutting the bottom of his door cards off and where is goes thought the dash he has no glovebox mount so no glove box.

Another friend with a R32 has a fabricage one too and he is in the same boat as the above and he also finds it very hard to get the dash in and out now.

The final option I looked at was a 6 point one with the straight legs so it misses the dash (was one at full lock) but this again worries me on the space for passengers etc.

Basically I like all my front interior (dash, door cards, a pillar trims and headlining) in one piece and neat - behind the front seats is less important !

Anyone able to help me with decisions on what cage, how I can cut neatly if I need to etc or anyone local got one I have have a lookie at ?

HPballer76 (http://zilvia.net/f/members/hpballer76.html) - Never even seen a cage like that before - all our half cages over here are just the rear section and have nothing foward of the b pillar :eek3:

Knuckles (http://zilvia.net/f/members/knuckles.html) - Thats what im on about !. Door cards that are in one piece and no rought holes. How did they get that finish around the front holes though as its almost like the dash has been shaped somehow. Its so neat and have no idea how they fitted it either

i didn't want to do a full cage cause i still drive the car on the street but i needed door bars so i could do tandem at events so that is what i ended up with.

Thought it be for something along those reasons

Over here you need a full 6 point FIA cage to compete :hs:

Why are your belts not attached to the harness bar?

Very interested in that but no one can confirm or deny the neatness that comes with them :(

I've got an autopower 4 point, and retained all interior panels. It's a Mfer to get the rear side panels back in as they should be, but it's possible.

The cages has just arrived to the UK dealer and they have started shipping them out to all the final addresses.

Work involved to install the cages:

S13/S14:
* Remove the seats
* Remove the rear side panels
* Put the head cage arc in place and assemble the remaining front bars on it. Mark up where to drill holes in the floor. Drill holes.
* Put the nut plate under the body floor (from the outside) and attach the fasteners. The main part of the cage is now installed.
* Now it is time for the rear bars. If you would like to keep the side wall covers you have to do some fine measuring where to cut a hole in them. This is where the bar is going through the plastic). After that has been done you simply stick the bar thorugh the plastic, attach the bars to the cage, mark up the fastener hoples in the inner wheel fender and drill holes. Attach the underside plate and you have a full cage installed.
* Put back the plastic cover over the rear inner fender and reinstall your seats.

S13 is a miss dash cage
S14 is going through the dash (you need to cut out holes from the side to put the cage tubing in (easy to cut with dash installed, just open door aim and cut).

S13 no problems with door panels
S14 rub a little agains door panels but not bad (and of coz the dash cut out).

That's it

Why are your belts not attached to the harness bar?

i had those in there before i got the cage and they are only bolt in not wrap around but those have been sold and i have 5 point 3 inch wrap around belts in the mail.

Just the standard reminder that having hard steel tubes inches from your unprotected head while driving on the street (i.e. no helmet) can make for a really, really bad day in an accident...

shogun! - Where you get all that information from ?

cbr4119 (http://zilvia.net/f/members/cbr4119.html) - Although I see where you are coming from I think that with harnesses that are fitted tightly like they are designed to be fitted ill be fine. I would also prefer to bang my head on the bar and live rather than have the car crumple and kill me :)

DJDANGER24 (http://zilvia.net/f/members/djdanger24.html) - Nice to hear from some with a street cage that had an accident (in a nice way ;))

Have I seen a significant accident where someone smack their head on a rollcage/bar? No, I have however smacked my own head on my rollbar (in a Miata) accidentally numerous times and given the pain involved in that my best case scenario if I'm ever rear-ended is a cracked skull.

On a more technical note the danger zone is about 2" past the farthest movement of your head (since your neck and harness will stretch a bit, no not 2" but that's a nice safe margin), if that area is clear you're generally safe. On the hand if you lean your head to the side and it smacks a tube you're rolling the dice and probably want to stick some padding on that tube.

If you're going to wear a 4+ point harness all the time you're going to have much less motion in an impact, 3 pt belts don't do as well.

In the interest of full disclosure I have a tube EXACTLY like I'm warning against in my Miata that I can't convince myself to cover (it was expensive and shiny and I don't want to cover it with ugly padding). It's been like that for ~8 years now with no issues but I know I'm going to be hurting if I ever get rear-ended.

have you personally seen that happen or heard stories of that ?I was decapitated by mine. I got better though.

As many times as I've told someone about not going full cage in a street car, no one ever listens. So I gave up.

Thankyou for the constructive reply rather than the "my way is the best way" you usually get on the internet !

I think once ive got the cage in ill be doing your 2" test and seeing where I go from there wether it be a new lower seatmount etc

I have it in my head coz I am such a good guy.... LOL

The information is provided from users of that cage and also from the company selling it. The question about fitment and keeping interior has been up a couple of times and I have put in lots of effort to verify if it is true or not. ... => "I think so....a friend of a friend of my sisters friend/boyfriend etc... bullocks. vs. confirmed by actually using the cages.

The installing information is the normal procedure. Nothing strange about that.
I make a lot of "how to's" Have a look in my project thread

Good point. Always use padding (it is also a demand when driving on tracks etc)
Ps. Use a good bucket seat and a real harness

I have smacked my head in the roof when driving over a crest at high speed. The chassis is tuned and stiff and the car took air. When it came down to ground again my ordinary belt did not stop my body from lifting from the seat and I smacked my head against the roof.

After installing the 6-point harnesses I have no such problems at all.

These are my "office seats"

After emailing Apex it seems that I would have to remove the door pockets and leave holes in them so kinda makes it pointless in keeping the door cards at all if they have holes in :(

Got offered a NISMO cage today but cant seem to find any info on them ever doing one

These pics are what ive been shown - can anyone confirm they made one or what make it might be ?

Kinda what I was thinking but its not totally the same as the other Cusco / 21 ones seen in respects to the harness bar and the lack of door bars (although they can be added I guess.

In my mind its never a Nismo as digging for hours now and cant find a single Nismo cage for any Nissan !
