california tint laws

Ok, so I wanna limo tint my car...

the problem is that I live in the car-nazi state of california and I do not want to be stopped for anything (I drive like a grandma, so any stops the would theorretically happen would be due to the appearance of my car).

What the MOST I can tint my windows without being hassled?

I've seen a few SUVs fully limo tinted front to back, but i'm guessing full tint is better then a black driver obeying the speed limit for the LAPD. (Sorry to the offended.) I don't know if you can 'getaway-with-it' so any advice would be very helpful.

Call a tinting shop. They'll tell you the legalities. Also, the rear windows (behind the driver) can be tinted limo, or even painted over. If someone says anything about it... realize that all conversion vans and semi-trucks don't have rear windows.

my mom rolls around with really dark tint all around, she had it done out of state. but everytime i see the cops i roll down the windows all the way so they can't see the tinting on the side windows.

My uncle is an opp officer (Canada)

I dont know if the laws are the same in usa but he tells me that its only the cops discretion as to whether they can see you if your windows are rolled up (ie when approaching your car on foot) they wanna be able to see whats going on in your car

tint laws in CA

Whatever you want in the back.

Back equals anything behind the driver, passenger and front windscreen windows.

Oh, and your allowed a 5 or 6 inch strip of tint at the top of your windshield.


Anything else is "illegal" but I have had a dark rear window and "light" tint on my driver and passenger window for 2 years now, never been a problem.
