Is their any advantage of replacing your rubber intake tubing on a sr with an aluminum pipe like the apexi or greddy kit.

Does it yeild noticeable gains....top or low end ?

not only has this been covered multiple times, but you like the guy in this post failed to use the search option here on zilvia. I know it can be hard at times but laziness is not a good trait here on zilvia.

I know, searching here is a pain...a friend told me i would get flamed, for the record i did search.

You guys should try it alot of irrelevant stuff come up 100 pages of it.

Thanks though

No advantage if same diameter.

Anyone could back this guys claim up ^^^^. I don't think the apexi or greddy one is larger correct me if im wrong.

For fucking realz? come on... Aluminum VS rubber.... If you can get a nice bend, should be smoother therefore less disruptive airflow, but main deal is collapse during heat. Rubber heats and gets soft, air tunnel collapses causing turbulence or restrictive air. Also your stock ones has those dumb ribs for flexibility, but causes turbulence.

Secondly if aluminum, during the bends, there is smother transition from the straight areas, not so much of rubber....

Clearly the OP is the same as the person who posted this, like 4 threads away:

I did post on that thread, after that guy refered me to it.

now that you said that about me making that thread....i went back over to it and it does sound like the same person....and we are both from florida.

It wouldn't make any sense for someone to post 2 threads about the same thing.

Anyway i went and i was looking at the greddy and the apexi kit and the diameter seem to get larger as it nears the filter....maybe autobacs is right

No advantage if same diameter.

Incorrect... Surface texture is a key factor when predicting air flow characteristics

Also your stock ones has those dumb ribs for flexibility, but causes turbulence.

Its not solely for flexibility, its main function is to avoid collapse under suction. The factory went this route b/c its necessary to have a flexible connection between the motor and factory air box. Without a doubt, an aluminum, smooth I.D. pipe, would be much better than the stock rubber hose, if you're not using the factory airbox. I'm not sure what that translates to in HP numbers... probably negligible with the stock turbo.

Yea its negligible for sure.... Usually people don't go for same diameter.... Well also I forgot in the ribbed part, there are some metal coils to keep it from collapsing... but whatever, its better to have larger diameter to a point. lol

4" intake on my T25! SICK! extra 20whp guaranteed!

there are many more things you can do to boost power...unless you're pushing alot of power, i wouldn't worry about this upgrade. crank your boost. plus the stock sr intake tube is lined with a metal spring type mechanism so it wont' collapse. spend your money elsewhere.

lol you're funny...

The opening of the air going into the turbo is so small relative to the size of the intake piping that the surface roughness of the intake piping should not matter.

well my boost is up to 12lbs anyway....for a couple bucks i could use my left over intercooler piping and do a pretty decent custom intake. I wasn't planning on spending alot of money anyway.

So now is it worth it?

I have seen a couple greddy kits on dsm's. They flare out to a very large diameter to the filter....but the turbo inlet is pretty small.

I dont know why a reputable company would make something not worth it.

^ DO IT! if you are using a pop charger it couldn't hurt. It will help but its probably negligible with a stock setup...

Should look better though... its an intake pipe on a T25, come on...

Edit:

Expand to MAFS size....

I think im gonna do it and try it out on a cold night....not that florida gets cold.
Then if it does feel any different i could just say it was the weather.

...so i don't feel bad

ohh by the way i have a t28 on my blacktop s13 sr. Feels way better than a t25 or again i might be fooled.

In terms of the greddy, it basically increases air flow speed as air is getting squeezed into a smaller space from a bigger space. Now I dunno about turbulence as this this can happen, but in a short distance, turbulence is not a big deal.

Either way if it don't cost too much money, then do it....
