Ok so ive read through a lot of threads...

Some say you have to unplug TPS to make ecu go into base timing before you install new distributor some threads do not mention this at all.

Just trying to clarify....trying to trouble shoot a lot of things.....

I also read a thread where they had timing marks on crank pulley, my crank pulley has no such marks unless of course those were put there by the owner.

I installed the distributor with exhaust cam facing out (compression stroke), facing exhaust manifold. It is aligned with cyl one on cap.

Just trying to make sure I have it correct because I did not unplug TPS sensor.

btw this is a 97

A 97 KA? Timing is not hard to do. Turn your crank pulley to TDC if you cant tell you can look at the first lobs on the cams they have to both be facing out. Pull distributor cap and rotor. Replace so rotor is pointing to clyinder 1 between 9 and 12. Pull TPS start the car adjust idle screw on IM then plug in TPS. Its rough instructions

I just checked the FSM for you and it DOES say to disconnect the TPS for the base idle. Also the spec for base idle speed is 650 rpm +/- 50 rpm which needs to be adjusted before you set timing. Oh yeah and make sure the engine is at operating temp.

Thought it was 700 +/- 50 rpms I am very sure.

idle is dependent on automatic trans or manual trans.

The 650 rpm spec is for when the car is running at base idle. You are correct if everything is hooked up and car idling normal.
